Cearley Fire Update:

Hwy 16 is open.

Approx 855 acres burned.

70% contained

Roughly 12 departments from 4 different counties have fought the fire. Texas Forest Service and task force Bravo along with air assist and 10 dozers are engaging the fire.

The head fire has been stopped and dozer lines are tying in the flanks.

Please stay aware.

As of 18:25pm, Mr. Jeffrey Logan and Mr. Zackery Anderson turned themselves into the Young County Jail after Sheriff’s Office Investigators obtained warrants for their arrest. Both individuals have been charged with Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animals, a class A Misdemeanor in the State of Texas.

Some fire crews are still in scene cleaning up so please use caution when passing through the area.

UPDATE: We are being informed that the fire on SH-16 N is now 70% contained.

The area remains closed.

CLOSED ROAD! Hwy 16 North is closed at SH-114 due to a large fire started by a semi-truck fire at Old Bethel Rd.

The roadway will be closed both directions for several hours. Please find alternate routes!
