📚🚓 WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL! 🚓📚

Today marks the first day of school for Gramercy Elementary School and all St. James Parish Public Schools. On behalf of the Gramercy Police Department, we wish every student, teacher, administrator, school employee, and parent a safe, successful, and rewarding school year!

As our community returns to its school routine, we ask everyone to help keep our children safe:

🚌 School Buses
• Stop when required by law for school buses loading or unloading students.
• Never pass a stopped school bus with its stop arm extended unless permitted by law.
• Be patient—those few extra moments could save a child’s life.

🚸 School Zones
• Slow down and obey all posted school zone speed limits.
• Stay alert for Police Officers directing traffic, students, and increased pedestrian traffic.
• Avoid distractions such as texting or using your phone while driving.

🚶 Students Walking or Riding to School
• Watch carefully for children crossing streets, especially near intersections and crosswalks.
• Expect the unexpected—young children may not always recognize traffic hazards.
• Give pedestrians plenty of space and always yield when required.

Parents, please remind your children to:
✅ Use designated crosswalks whenever possible.
✅ Look left, right, and left again before crossing.
✅ Stay alert and avoid distractions while walking near traffic.

The Gramercy Police Department will have officers actively patrolling school zones to help ensure the safety of everyone traveling to and from school. Our goal is education, awareness, and keeping every child safe.

We wish everyone a fantastic first day and a wonderful school year ahead!

TOGETHER, We will BE BETTER!

Boil Water Notice 8/2/2026 11:08 AM

The Town of Gramercy Water System has experienced problems with our water supply system. Due to a Failed water main, the town has lost water pressure. Because of these problems, the water produced by our water supply system is of questionable microbiological quality.
Therefore, as a precaution, the Town of Gramercy Water System is issuing a BOIL ADVISORY effective immediately. This BOIL ADVISORY is to remain in effect until rescinded by the Water System. It is recommended that all consumers disinfect their water before consuming it (including fountain drinks), making ice, brushing teeth, or using it for food preparation or rinsing of foods by the following means: Boil water for one (1) full minute in a clean container. The one-minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. (The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle, pouring it from one clean container to another, or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that is boiled.) Again, please be sure to disinfect your own water prior to consumption until you have been advised otherwise.
The Town of Gramercy Water System will rescind this Boil Advisory upon notification from the Louisiana Department of Health- Office of Public Health that additional water samples collected from our water supply system have shown our water to be safe.

☀️ HOT CARS CAN TURN DEADLY IN MINUTES ☀️

A few minutes is all it takes for the temperature inside a parked vehicle to rise to dangerous levels—even with the windows cracked. Children and pets are especially vulnerable to heat-related illness and can suffer heat stroke or death much faster than adults.

🚗 Look Before You Lock. Make it a habit to check your back seat every time you leave your vehicle.

🐾 Never leave a child or pet unattended in a vehicle.

If you see a child or pet in distress inside a hot car, call 911 immediately. Acting quickly could save a life.

Together, We will BE BETTER! 💙💛
