Sheriff Brett Schroetlin is seeking re-election as Grand County Sheriff, bringing more than three decades of law enforcement experience and a deep commitment to public safety. He has been involved in Grand County law enforcement since 2002 and has served as Sheriff since 2015. With a career in law enforcement dating back to 1992 and as a sworn Peace Officer since 1999, Sheriff Schroetlin has built his leadership on professionalism, accountability, and strong community partnerships. As a Colorado native with 24 years in Grand County, he understands the unique needs and values of the community he serves.

Sheriff Schroetlin is running for re-election at a critical time for our state and nation. Why vote in the primary?

Marcy Wheatley for Grand County Treasurer

A Colorado native with a strong background in accounting and a deep commitment to public service, Marcy Wheatley brings both experience and dedication to the Grand County Treasurer’s office. She earned her BSBA and MBA in accounting from the University of Southern Colorado and spent five years working as a tax accountant before moving to Grand County to raise her family. For 18 years, she homeschooled her daughters while also volunteering as a 4-H leader, helping on the family ranch, and working part-time as a bookkeeper and tax accountant.

In May 2022, Marcy was appointed by the Board of County Commissioners to serve as County Treasurer after the previous treasurer resigned. Since then, she has worked to learn the role quickly and serve the county with honesty, transparency, and a strong work ethic. She is running for re-election because she feels she is just getting started and wants to continue implementing important state statute changes that affect the office.

Marcy’s top priorities include fighting at the state legislature to prevent burdensome or unnecessary statutes from creating extra costs for rural counties, while supporting only those changes that benefit Grand County residents. She also wants to continue building a knowledgeable, courteous staff that is always ready to serve the public.

Marcy believes her background in bookkeeping, accounting, and small-town service makes her uniquely qualified for the position. She says Grand County may be growing, but it still feels small, and she enjoys meeting taxpayers and citizens and seeing how connected the community really is.

A key message Marcy wants voters to understand is that the County Treasurer does not set property taxes — state statutes determine how those taxes are collected and distributed to local governments and special districts. She believes voters should choose her because she has persevered in learning the job and is committed to serving with integrity.

"There's been a delay in some people receiving their ballots," she said Wednesday. "There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason why, but it's all over Grand County."

Christine Murphy for Grand County Assessor

With over 25 years of appraisal experience and deep roots in the community, Christine Murphy brings both expertise and a people-first approach to the Assessor’s office. After moving to Grand County in 2000, she built her career with Grand Appraisal Service and went on to purchase the company in 2012. Christine and her family have been active members of the community for decades, building lasting relationships and raising their daughter in the place they proudly call home.

Christine is running to strengthen communication between the Assessor’s office and the public while fostering better collaboration across county departments. She understands that property valuations and taxes can feel complicated and frustrating, and she is committed to helping residents better understand the process, their rights, and how values are determined using objective data.

Her top priorities include building trust through transparency, improving communication with taxpayers, and ensuring property assessments are accurate and fair. Christine believes that listening to residents and working alongside them is key to creating confidence in the system.

A longtime business owner, Christine and her husband operated Murphy’s Food & Spirits for 21 years. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her horses and participating in team roping.
