Windsor Locks Fire Department regrets to announce the sudden passing of active duty Lieutenant Andrew "Drew" Hill on March 15, 2025 at the age of 52.

LT. Hill joined the Department in August of 2001 and was promoted to Lieutenant in December of 2023. Much of his time in the Department, he was an Apparatus Steward, helping to ensure the safety and performance of our critical equipment. He was an avid participant or coordinator in our community involvement with the town Trunk or Treat, Holiday Torchlight, and Honor Flight events.

His daughters, Amber and Kayleigh, followed in his footsteps as members of the Department and Explorer/Cadet program.

LT. Hill and his wife, Michelle, are proud Marine Corps veterans who have dedicated countless hours to the veteran community in town and beyond.

Information on arrangements will be released once approved by his family. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Town of Granby - Open Burn Ban Lifted.

Thank you all for your diligence during this unusual event.

Fire Safety Guidance:
Adhere to Local Burn Laws: Even with the burn ban lifted from state public lands, check with your municipality for any specific restrictions on open burning.

Handle Fire Responsibly: Use fire pits, grills, and other sources of flame cautiously. Always ensure they are fully extinguished before leaving them unattended.

Dispose of Ashes Safely: Place ashes in a fire-safe container with a sealable lid, and ensure they are cool before disposal. Store the container away from flammable materials.

Avoid Spark-Generating Activities: Refrain from using lawn equipment, chainsaws, or other machinery near dry vegetation.

Report Fires Immediately: Call 911 if you see smoke or fire. Quick reporting is critical in preventing the spread of wildfires.
