To our Grand Community,
As we celebrate National EMS Week, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude for the professionals of Grand County EMS who serve our residents and millions of annual visitors with expertise, compassion, and unwavering dedication.
This year’s theme, “We Care. For Everyone,” speaks directly to the heart of who we are. No matter the time, place, or circumstance, GCEMS is there. From our lowest river bed, to the highest peak and everywhere in between, our crews are ready when help is needed, and their results speak for themselves.
Your GCEMS providers outperform state and national benchmarks in 27 of 29 clinical care metrics, confirming top-notch, evidence-based care. One of the first three EMS agencies in Colorado to implement prehospital whole blood, our providers offer the best chance to people who may otherwise perish. Our bystander CPR rates led the state in 2024, and we achieved a remarkable 4.92 out of 5 average patient satisfaction score. Additionally, despite increasing call volume, we reduced response time by nearly a full minute last year.
These outcomes—and countless others—are the result of relentless training and an unshakable commitment. The EMS providers at GCEMS stand shoulder to shoulder with the best in nation, and it is my absolute honor and privilege to represent and serve them.
To the people of Grand County: thank you for your trust. To the professionals at GCEMS: thank you for your courage, your skill, and your heart. Every week, I stand in awe of what you accomplish. To our partner agencies: we couldn’t do what we do without your support and teamwork.
If you see a Grand County EMS crew out and about, take a moment and give them a smile and a quick thanks, they’re an incredible group of humans our community can be proud of.
Respectfully,
Austin Wingate
EMS Chief
