The System Access Charge (SAC) helps keep the grid reliable and costs equitable for all MPE members.

The SAC is a fixed fee that every MPE member sees on their bill. It helps fund infrastructure, like poles, power lines, and meters, and their maintenance, alongside administrative costs and vegetation management. In other words, the SAC pays for the system that keeps your power reliable–running more than 99% of the time.

Mountain Parks Electric (MPE) will initiate Fire Protection Settings for its entire system, effective June 10, due to dry, windy conditions and the potential risk of wildfires.

This higher sensitivity setting, or “one shot” as it’s called in the industry, means that if anything contacts a power line, that area is almost immediately de-energized.

By placing our system on “one shot,” MPE reduces the chances of starting a fire. The trade-off is that our system may experience more frequent and potentially longer outages in this setting.

At MPE, safety is our top priority, and these settings help protect our families, homes, and businesses. Find out more at www.MPEI.com/Wildfire-Mitigation.

Byers Peak takes center stage for the second month in a row for our Outdoor Photo Contest!

Last month it was covered in snow and in this month's image, it's being consumed by a thunderstorm.

Congratulations to Evan Naughton for winning the May Outdoor Photo Contest. Evan shared he snapped the photo after mountain biking the Twin Bridges Trails on July 22, 2022. He (bravely) carried his camera along since they "were chasing a thunderstorm.

At our Annual Meeting, members got to experience the effort it takes to power a 12-volt light with our Pedal Power Energy Bike, and it was harder than they thought!

According to survey results, the activity ranked as one of guest's favorites amongst the meeting's breakfast activities.

How long could you pedal? Keep an eye out for our future community events to give it a try!

Spring in the mountains means thawing ground, melting snow, and soft soil.

Imagine a crew of lineworkers arriving to repair a line along a rural road.
The truck pulls off the shoulder, but something feels off. The ground looks solid on top, but underneath it’s saturated and unstable. A heavy bucket truck can sink, shift, or tilt just enough to create a dangerous situation when someone is working 40–50 feet in the air. So the crew pauses and they reassess the work zone.

Crew members may reposition the truck or add cribbing or mats, but sometimes it is best to delay the job until conditions improve. It takes longer, but stability matters when thousands of pounds of equipment and a person in a bucket are involved.

Key takeaway?
Safety is MPE's #1 priority. Spring mud may look harmless, but unstable ground can turn routine work into a dangerous situation. Taking a few extra minutes to stabilize the work zone helps ensure our crews go home safe.

If you see us taking time to reposition equipment or pause work, there’s usually a safety reason behind it. Thanks for giving our crews the space to do the job safely.
