This video was recorded today by one our crew members.

While waiting for an overturned lumber hauler to be righted, a vehicle accident occurred just behind our crews. There were several police officers staged leading up to this scene and all vehicles on scene had their emergency lights activated.

We have posted several times about being aware of accident scenes, moving over and slowing down. This is why.

Every emergency responder has family that we want to go home to. This is a scary situation that thankfully resulted in no injuries for any party involved.

We apologize for the poor quality of the film.

Tonight we spring forward. A great tool to know that your smoke alarms are in working order is to change your batteries when you change your clocks. When you do so, check that your smoke alarms are within 10 years of the manufacturing date. If they are older than 10 years, it’s time to replace them.

Working smoke alarms are essential to alerting us of a fire in the home. Please make sure that you and your family are protected and safe.

Today our duty crew had the honor of meeting Richard and Cindy McGrath.

At approximately 4:30 am on August 16, 2019, Richard’s vehicle was struck by a truck at the intersection of Maple and Center. His vehicle caught fire and he was trapped in the drivers seat. With a fast response and combined efforts from police and fire personnel, Richard was removed from the burning vehicle.

Richard suffered significant injuries and has had a long road of healing and recovery. He has underwent many surgeries and hospitalizations. He has survived COVID while being treated for pneumonia. To say this Navy Veteran is a fighter is an understatement.

The McGrath family kindly donated the bronzed fountain statue shown in the picture to our department. They named the girl in the statue Jordan. Jordan will find a home at our station and will be a daily reminder to all of us of the incident.

As the crew listened to the journey of this kind man, everyone was very moved. Typically we see our patients loaded into an ambulance and we don’t know what happens from there. Moments like today are the very reason we all do what we do.

Thank you Cindy and Richard for sharing with us and your support. You told us that you wouldn’t be here today without us and we feel the same toward you.

Crews have been busy overnight! At approximately 12:40 A.M., crews were requested to assist the City of Burton with a residential structure fire in the 1000 block of E. Bristol. Later in the early morning hours at approximately 4:40 A.M., crews were dispatched for a call of smoke in the area which was determined to be fog. Crews ended their shift with a structure fire at approximately 5:20 A.M., at Maplebrook Village Apartments which was quickly contained.

Thank you to Grand Blanc Township Police Department for the help as always!

While you were sleeping.

At around 5:20 am, our 3rd shift officers responded, along with Grand Blanc Township Fire to the Maplebrook Village Apartments, for a structure fire. Our officers assisted with evacuating the building and traffic control. The fire department did their usual awesome job in containing the fire. No injuries were reported!
Thanks to all the first responders who protect us, while most of us sleep.

As you go out to clear snow today, please take a few extra minutes to clear a path to and around your fire hydrant. Having accessible hydrants makes it much easier for us to locate, access and connect to hydrants when seconds matter.

02/16/2021

The Township Office will open at 10am this morning to allow the snowplow drivers to safely clear the roads.

02/16/2021

Grand Blanc Community Schools will be closed tomorrow, 2/16/2021.

02/15/2021

Please read the following statement from DPW Director Jeff Sears regarding the upcoming snow event:

GBT plows will begin removing snow from residential streets in the Township at 5am Tuesday morning. With up to 10” of snow forecasted, this process will likely take all day and into Tuesday night. We are asking for help from the public with the following:

Please DO NOT park in the roadways. If we go around your car, we will not be back to clean up after you move it.

Please wait until Wednesday morning to put your trash out. Snow coming off plows will knock your trash cans over.

Please be patient. It will take all day to get through over 120 miles of subdivision streets so we may not get to you until later in the day.

Please give our trucks room to work. They do not stop, steer, or maneuver easily so please stay back as they work through the snow removal process.

Charter Township of Grand Blanc

Genesee County 911

Important information for the upcoming May 4th ballots to allow the continued surcharge which funds the Genesee County 911.

On May 4th ballots, there will be a vote on the continuation of our surcharge of $1.86 on each phone bill for the residents of Genesee County. There is no request for an increase just for the surcharge to remain the same. Genesee County 911 is solely funded by the surcharge on resident’s cell phone bills, no other tax or millage, and we pride ourselves on being able to provide you with the best most efficient service. Details are below.

The Genesee County Board of Commissioners voted on January 27, 2021 and approved our request for a local 9-1-1 surcharge renewal of a $1.86 to be place on the May 4, 2021 ballot, since then we have fielded several phone calls from persons in our community wanting more information about this topic so we are providing the following information.
1. What do we use Surcharge funding for?

a. The surcharge funding is used to run our total operation of the Genesee County 9-1-1 Dispatch Authority. We are 100% funded by our surcharge and this is our only source of income for funding of 9-1-1 emergency call answering and dispatch services within Genesee County that including our facilities, equipment, maintenance and operating costs.

b. If approved by the voters the surcharge will assess a charge on all landline, wireless, and voice over internet protocol service devices located within Genesee County of up to $1.86 per month, for a period ending December 31, 2026.

Ballot Question:
Shall the County of Genesee, Michigan, be authorized to assess a charge on all landline, wireless, and voice over internet protocol service users located within Genesee County of up to $1.86 per month, for a period ending December 31, 2026, to be distributed exclusively for funding of 9-1-1 emergency call answering and dispatch services within Genesee County including facilities, equipment, maintenance, and operating costs?

1. When was the original $1.86 surcharge set and by whom? This fixed rate was set in 2017 by a vote of the residents of Genesee County and accepted by the State of Michigan.

2. Who is Genesee County 9-1-1 Dispatch Authority? Your Genesee County 9-1-1 Dispatch Authority represents 31 local units of government and dispatches for all EMS, Fire and Police agencies within Genesee County with the exception of Fenton City. The City of Fenton has a 9-1-1 Dispatch Center that dispatches EMS, Fire and Police within the City of Fenton.

3. What is the sunset date and why is this vote needed in May 2021?
The Board of Commissioners had questions about timing and associated costs, please know that Genesee County 9-1-1 spent a good amount of 2020 forming an operational surcharge committee, organizing virtual meetings and reaching out to executives at the State level to determine what might be the State’s course of action when the legislation sunsets on December 31, 2021. We have gotten no response to date and decided a ballot proposal was the best course of action to secure our future.

4. Ballot language was drafted and on December 8, 2020, the General Membership Consortium Commission adopted a resolution to the Board of Commissioners requesting placement on the May 4, 2021 ballot, a renewal of $1.86 per device, per month.

5. With over 400,000+ calls annually to Genesee County 9-1-1, we cannot afford to let the service lapse. With the surcharge intact, Genesee County 9-1-1 will continue to help the 400,000+ citizens it serves 24/7/365. Let’s keep 911 available to Genesee County residents in need. Thank you.

🦴 Congrats Jimi on your well deserved retirement! Thank you for your service! 🦴

We have a very special retirement announcement! Today is K9 Jimi’s last day of service. Jimi has served the residents of Grand Blanc Township and all of Genesee County for the past 7 years. During that time he has detected countless illegal drugs, tracked missing and wanted persons, and located hidden evidence. But where Jimi truly shined was during public relations events. He loved visiting schools and taking part in public events. But more importantly, the kids and the public loved Jimi.
Recently, Jimi was called to assist another agency in tracking a wanted violent felon. Jimi found the male hiding along a river bank, in a hole, where he was taken into custody.
Jimi, who turns nine tomorrow, begins his life as a lazy dog and will remain with his handler, Officer Connelly.
Thank you Jimi for your service! Enjoy the next chapter as a lap dog!

Hello Grand Blanc community! ⚡⚡⚡
When will there be some lighting in all these new #RoundAbouts at the Dort Hwy Exit? They are #BlackAsPitch
city of grand blanc fire department and city of grand blanc police officers will be driving Santa through the city neighborhoods in December to cheer up the kids that have missed out on so much this year....Is the township able to do this also? Seems a bit unfair that some children of grand blanc will get to experience this while others do not. :(
Hope everyone is safe and well after what appeared to be a big fire today. Saw lots of smoke and heard lots of sirens.
Congratulations!
For everyone who commented me on my retirement from GBTFD. I Thank You So Very Much!!!!!!! I appreciate all that was said. I already miss it. It was very hard for me to turn in my retirement letter, It has been a Job that could never be replaced. Protecting your community and being there for the men and women on the department and through out the county was very rewarding. Everyone is an extended part of my family. There has been so many Good Memories and Laughs that will never be forgotten. For a lot of you I will still be in contact with. You will always be in my Heart. Sincerely, Jerry Knopf
We had some excitement yesterday! Thank you to the Grand Blanc Township and city police and Fire department for saving 6 baby ducks that fell through the sewer grate. Mama duck was there all morning and was happy to be reunited with her babies. 🦆
Yesterday the Grand Blanc Township Police and Fire Department did a drive by on Tree Hill Road in honor of my grandsons birthdays! They were very surprised and thrilled!! Thank you so much for your time and thoughtfulness! Wishing all of the officers and firemen continued safety and ongoing appreciation for all you do.
By the way, my dog, Speedy, thanks you for doing such amazing and exciting practices on "his" pond. Thank you for all you do and prepare for!
Well, sadly, looks like all trucks including the new one were called out tonight. Stay safe everyone.
Does the twp road bury all hydrants or was this a mistake? I know they’ve done it in the past but not this bad. Wondered if it was a mistake or they just don’t care?
