🚲 E-BIKES: KNOW THE LAW BEFORE YOU RIDE!

E-bikes are becoming more popular throughout Michigan, but not every electric-powered bike is legally considered an “e-bike.” There are important differences between Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3 e-bikes—and some electric bikes, scooters, mopeds, and e-motos are actually considered different types of vehicles under Michigan law.

Our goal is to help riders understand what is—and isn't—an e-bike, where you can ride, age and helmet requirements, equipment requirements, and some of the rules that apply when riding on Michigan roads and trails.

D/SRO Rouse and GBK9 Ace decided to have a little fun at the high school before the students returned—and apparently, the pool was too tempting to pass up!

This year marks D/SRO Rouse’s 10th year serving our schools, and K9 Ace’s 3rd year keeping a watchful eye on things. If you’ve been to Grand Blanc sporting events or spent any time at the high school, chances are you’ve already seen these two around.

If not, you'll be seeing plenty of them this year at both campuses and at many of our biggest events.

Stop by and say hi whenever you see SRO Rouse or GBK9 Ace!

RAILROAD CROSSING CLOSED AT GRAND BLANC ROAD STARTING MONDAY, JULY 27TH

In the City of Grand Blanc, Grand Blanc Road at the railroad crossing will be closed beginning Monday, July 27th through Monday, August 10th to allow for the construction of rail crossing safety improvements. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes while traffic is detoured along Seward Street, Reid Road and Davis Street.

💻📱 Scam Alert: Protect Yourself from Fraud

Have you or someone you know been a victim of fraud? Scam texts and calls are a daily occurrence - our officers are just as annoyed with the calls and texts as you are!

Scammers are constantly finding new ways to target people through phone calls, text messages, emails, social media, and online marketplaces. If something seems too good to be true, creates a sense of urgency, or asks for personal or financial information, take a moment to verify before responding.

📊 The numbers are staggering:
• In 2025, the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) received more than 𝟏 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬 of suspected internet crime.
• Americans reported over $𝟐𝟎.𝟖 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐲𝐛𝐞𝐫-𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐮𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐬—a 26% increase from the previous year.
• Investment scams, business email compromise (BEC), and tech support scams accounted for the greatest financial losses.

🎆 FIREWORKS, FREEDOM, AND A FEW FRIENDLY REMINDERS 🎆

As we get ready to celebrate America's 250th Birthday, we wanted to share a few important (and hopefully entertaining) reminders about fireworks.

🔥 First, the legal stuff.
Michigan law allows consumer fireworks to be used between 11:00 a.m. and 11:45 p.m. on June 29, June 30, July 1, July 2, July 3, and July 4. (view our city ordinance here ➡https://bit.ly/4iOv5DG)

That means if your neighbor is launching fireworks during those hours, they're likely doing so legally. While we understand that not everyone enjoys the noise (especially pets, young children, and those who have to be up early), there's not much we can do about fireworks being used lawfully. If your dog isn't a fan of fireworks, now is a good time to break out the treats, toys, white noise machines, or whatever helps keep them comfortable.

💥 Second, fireworks are designed to explode.
Please use common sense and follow all safety instructions. Every year, emergency rooms see people who thought, "I've got this," right before discovering they did not, in fact, have this.

If your celebration plan includes fireworks and adult beverages, consider assigning the fireworks duties to someone whose decision-making skills haven't been enhanced by a cooler full of patriotic refreshments.

📱 Third, put the phone down occasionally.
We promise that your Facebook friends do not need 37 consecutive videos of the same fireworks display from slightly different angles. The fireworks look better in person than they do through a shaky phone camera. Take a few pictures, then enjoy the show.

🚔 Finally, celebrate responsibly.
Don't drink and drive. Buckle up. Keep an eye on children around fireworks. Be considerate of your neighbors. Most importantly, have a safe and enjoyable holiday week.

The Grand Blanc City Police Department was proud to participate in Sam's Club's 3rd Annual Ribs for Kids event, benefiting the children and families served by Hurley Children's Hospital.

It was a fantastic day filled with great food, friendly competition, and an even greater cause. We are thankful to Sam's Club for hosting this event and to everyone who came out to support it.

🏆Congratulations to Lt. Bryan Byarski, whose ribs were voted the best tasting at the event for the second year in a row! Despite some tough competition, he successfully defended his title. We can't confirm what's in his secret recipe, but after back-to-back championships, we're beginning to suspect it includes a little bit of magic.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who attended, donated, and helped support the kids and families at Hurley Children's Hospital. We're grateful to be part of such a generous community.💙
