It has come to our attention that The Grand Forks Herald has published two articles claiming the other party Sarah Kyte is running against "wins reelection to Northeast Central District Court" and he received "3,225 votes to defeat" Sarah Kyte.
We are not sure how The Grand Forks Herald is publishing such false information. We can see why many people are confused.
To help clarify:
A primary election is an election to determine who continues on, to have their name placed on the general election ballot in November. The top two candidates for a judicial seat move on to be placed onto the general election ballot in North Dakota, so long as they each receive 300 votes. Both Sarah Kyte and the other candidate received in excess of 300 votes.
As a result, both names will be placed on the general election ballot in November. Neither candidate has been "defeated" and neither candidate has been elected or "reelected." (Noting that since neither candidate has been previously elected, it would be impossible for them to be reelected.)
We hope this helps clear up any confusion.
