One thing I seldom stop to appreciate about farming is getting front row seats to scenes like this. The fact that it doesn’t cost a dime is an incredible bonus. Many thanks to Sheri Hartwig for stopping out last night to capture and share what I often take for granted.

First planted field of sugar beets is coming up nicely!

Aside from a planter breakdown costing us 28 hours of planting time on Wednesday and Thursday, we still had a productive week helping a farmer west of Argyle, Minnesota. The corn and sugar beets are in the ground, along with some wheat and soybeans.

The beets we planted on Monday are already sprouted and on their way up, and there are a few wheat spears poking out of the earlier planted fields. My favorite time for crop touring is now, when the valley turns to a sea of green.

3 tenths of rain fell about an hour after we shut the tractors down in the wee hours of the morning. This puts a short pause on the operation, but we’ll rest up and be ready to hit it hard when things dry out. The shot of rain we received was fantastic for what is in the ground. Any seeds that were lying in dry dirt will now be able to germinate. It’s a late spring, but things are looking good thus far and an above-average crop is not at all out of the cards.
Hh
Our fingers are 🤞that the forecasted severe weather holds off lot fizzles out so we can get back to work!

We are putting some sugar beets in the ground! A late-night rain shower delayed our start this morning, but Mother Nature redeemed herself with sun and a little breeze to dry things out. Soil conditions are excellent with ample moisture. It’s exciting to finally see wheels turning in the valley!
