Practice fire safety by avoiding clutter🔥

The fire risk increases when living spaces get too packed with personal items. It also makes it difficult for firefighters to enter when called for service.

Follow these strategies to maintain a fire safe living space:

-Keep cooking spaces clear of clutter.
-Ensure heating areas are clear of clutter.
-Make sure that windows and doors aren’t blocked for safe entry/exit.

How to use a fire extinguisher🧯

When using a fire extinguisher think of the acronym ‘pass.’ Pass stands for Pull the pin, Aim low, Squeeze the lever slowly and evenly, and Sweep the nozzle from side-to-side.

Make sure that your fire extinguisher is easily accessible, the gauge reads in the green, clean, and tested yearly. Wanting to practice using a fire extinguisher? We are more than happy to host a fire extinguisher demonstration at any business.

Go to usfa.fema for more info on how to use a fire extinguisher.

Super Bowl Fire Safety🏈🔥

It’s almost time for the biggest US sporting event of the year! The Super Bowl brings a big audience, but it can also bring potential fire hazards.

Here are some tips to ensure a fire safe and fun night:

-Get most of the cooking done before the game.
-Make sure liquids are away from electrical items.
Don’t plug an extension cord into another extension cord.
-After the game, check that heating appliances are turned off and smaller appliances are unplugged.
-Have a fire extinguisher ready for emergencies.

We hope you stay safe, enjoy the game, and may the best team win! P.S. Drink responsibility by having a designated driver or by calling an Uber.

If you have any questions, feel free to email [email protected] or call 701-746-2566.

Remember to “Close Before You Doze”🚪

There is a common misconception that it’s safer to leave your door open when you sleep. However, actually CLOSING your door can save lives.

Here’s why you should “Close Before You Doze”:

🔥Limits and delays the spreading of flames throughout the structure.
🔥Keeps the temperature much lower in your room as the fire spreads (100 degrees vs 1000+ degrees).
🔥Blocks exposure to toxic smoke and gases.
🔥Gives you and others more time to safely exit the home or apartment.

The picture shows the difference that closing your door can make. Visit fsri.org for more info on the Close Before You Doze initiative.
