Here are some notes to make your arrival to Grand Forks enjoyable and safe.
The Grand Forks International Airport is very busy. There will be a high volume of training going on in addition to the landing contest. Please use the Grand Forks Approach Control, 132.3, and listen up. Approach will funnel all VFR traffic in from the northeast, southeast, southwest or northwest. If you filed IFR expect a 5 mile final approach. On July 26th a group of new restricted airspace will be charted to the west and southwest of Grand Forks. The closest of these areas is currently depicted as a TFR over and west of the Grand Forks Air Force Base. If you are talking to ATC and are using a discreet squawk code these should not be a factor. Please check NOTAMs and have current charts with you.
The main runway will be busy on competition day so you should expect your arrival to be on a smaller active parallel runway. Have the airport diagram handy for quick reference after you land to make the taxi instructions easier.
We will be parking all airplanes on Ramp A between A4 and D taxiways. Please follow the line personnel's’ parking instructions. After you park, please wait for one of our shuttles to pick you and your passengers up. It will be a long walk to our facility.
Once at our FBO you may eat right away or register for your landing slot. You may also request line services, fuel, oil, etc. at the registration desk. If you need to go back to your airplane, you must use a shuttle. No one will be allowed back onto the ramp without es**rt.
If you are driving, please park your vehicle, in the grass immediately to the east of our hangar, #2403. The area will be clearly marked.
Airplane Rental
Just like we’ve advertised, we will offer our Cessna 172 as an airplane in which to compete. It will be rented on a first come first served basis. Competitors will compete in the same order in which they register. We will fit as many renters into the competition as we can before 8 pm. We do not offer any guarantees that all who sign up to rent the airplane will get to compete. If the airplane breaks and cannot be fixed that day it can’t be used. If you don’t fly you will not be charged the rental fee.
If you are not checked out in the C172 one of our CFIs will ride with you. You must have a current BFR and be 90 day passenger current. This requirement is to ensure that you are qualified to be PIC during your landing attempt.
Please feel free to mail me any question that you may have. We are looking forward to seeing you.
