Northlands Rescue Mission is an emergency shelter empowering people experiencing homelessness, housing instability, or food insecurity to live more stable lives. We serve homeless men, women, and families from 21 counties in North Dakota and Minnesota. Clients are provided with shelter, meals, clothing, essential items, spiritual support, and case management. This is delivered in a safe environmen

t, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The end goal for everyone who stays at the Mission is permanent housing. In 2021, more than 150 men and women found permanent housing with the help of the Mission & supporting agencies. We also feed thousands of community members each year with our outreach initiatives, which include the Backpack Food Program for elementary students, monthly food boxes, and our Mobile Food Pantry. God saves. ✝️

We are blessed to have Pastor Hughes from Cornerstone Baptist join us twice a month for Bible study. 18 clients attended the last session. There seems to be a real energy of receptivity in his sessions.

Rediscovering faith and connecting with God is an important part of the healing process for many of our clients. It's not always easy, especially for those of us who have been through great hardship. There are questions and spiritual challenges to overcome. We are fortunate to have people like Pastor Hughes and the others mentioned below, who navigate these situations with compassion and wisdom.

Friends of St Michael's Church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church - East Grand Forks host a Bible study every Thursday evening at the Mission.

The Redeemed Christian Church of God - Lord's Temple visits the second Sunday of each month. They lead both and onsite and offsite Bible study for our clients. They hope to add another Sunday each month very soon!

Grand Forks Salvation Army also picks up folks at the Mission for dinner and Bible study every month.

We have a strong and loving faith community here in Grand Forks. Thank you to our faith leaders and volunteers who are helping our clients nurture a relationship with God. 🙏

Praise God for 6 souls saved this week!

Last night, 66 people stayed at the Mission. That's the most people we've had in May in almost ten years.

They are people like David, who suffered a traumatic brain injury as a child. He's had a tough life in the years since and recently described himself as a "nomad against my will."

Compassionate people just like you are stepping in to make sure David has help finding a new job (he has experience in construction and lawncare) and a new apartment.

But there are 65 others like him who need help too. More people come to us each day. These are the folks who Jesus calls on us to help:

'whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me' (Matthew 25:40)

If you believe people in our community should have basic resources and a chance to succeed, please consider giving to the Mission or becoming a Monthly Partner. A gift of just $5/month helps ensure that people have access to food and shelter year-round.

If you can't give monthly, that's okay. One-time gifts are very impactful too!

• $20 provides 10 meals for people in need
• $60 provides a full day + night of shelter and support for someone like David

Thank you for considering the need and may God bless you. 🙏

We can't point to one single thing that explains why Jackson ended up at the Mission. Like many of our clients, it's a mix of factors. And like many of our clients, mental health challenges are among them. These include addiction, trauma, developmental disabilities, and more.

A meal and a bed is a great start to help someone. But a person like Jackson needs more support to have a real shot at changing his life.

We are blessed that the people of this region step up to provide that extra level of support through the Mission. It's a combination of support resources (like medical care or group therapy), encouragement, accountability, and faith. And it works!

While Jackson was staying at the Mission, he started attending our in-house addiction support group. He broke down the feelings and motivations behind his addiction like never before. It led him to enroll in a residential treatment program in South Dakota, where he got sober and obtained his CNA license.

Jackson came back to Grand Forks after about 6 months. At that time, he relapsed. This could have been a total loss, but it wasn't. That's because he has a support network now.

Jackson returned to the meetings that helped him before. He's talked with supportive friends and staff. His motivation to overcome is still there and strong.

Now he is 2 months sober AND he's working as a nursing assistant at a local care facility. All told, things are going well for him.

When you see a person experiencing homelessness, please consider that there's more to it than just "bad choices." And even when bad choices are involved, they don't have to continue.

More than half of our clients report at least one mental health disorder (and more go unreported). There are big challenges to overcome, but with the right kind of support, it is possible.

We’re grateful to those of you who offer this support through the Mission and show compassion to people navigating mental health challenges. Let's continue to show up for these people. ❤

When David was just four years old, he got into a car accident and suffered a traumatic brain injury. It's affected his ability to process information and made it hard for him to find a stable situation.

That doesn't mean he can't succeed. David is ready to work and find housing right now. He has experience in construction, lawncare, and customer service. He just needs a little support to move forward.

We're seeing a lot of people like David walk through our doors. But giving has slowed down, making it harder to meet the growing need.

That's why we need your help. As little as $5 a month helps provide food, shelter, and support for community members in need (one-time gifts make a difference too)!

Become a Monthly Mission Partner or learn more at https://www.northlandsrescuemission.org/monthlypartner

You can make the difference for someone like David. For him, that means a new job and his own apartment. He'll have a warm bed and meals, plus someone to help him set goals and apply for jobs and housing. But it can't happen without your help!

If you aren't ready to make a gift but want to know more, please reach out to me. I would love to hear from you and answer your questions. (701) 772-6600 ext. 1000 or email [email protected]

Have a great Memorial Day weekend, everyone!

Just ran into a gentleman named Gary, who stayed with us briefly in 2024. We were so happy to hear that he is still doing well and feeling good about life! ☺

When Gary came to the Mission, he just needed a little help with a plan for housing. He’d lived a full life to that point, working for years as a shipbuilder, logger, and more. Medical issues had thrown a wrench into his future plans, though.

We knew right away that Gary could succeed here. He has a strong work ethic and a good attitude. With this community’s help, he was able to get his own home in less than 2 months. He even came back to volunteer at the Mission as a way of saying thank you.

Grand Forks has truly become Gary's home over the past couple years. As an older gentleman, he's found the community to be peaceful and inviting. Right now, he’s working on getting into a nicer apartment.

So grateful for this reminder of why the work matters. God places people into our lives every day. It’s up to us to embrace these opportunities to serve. Thank you to all who answered that call for Gary. ❤

Friends, we need you! Support slows down this time of year, but so many people are coming to us in need of food, shelter, and a chance at a better life.

They are people like David, who suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car accident as a child. It's made life difficult for him, but with a little support, he's now working to find a job and a home.

Please consider joining 50+ other Monthly Mission Partners who help provide year-round food, shelter, and support for community members in need. As little as $5/month makes a difference!

We brought back a Mission classic yesterday: Bingo Night! 🔢

This turned out to be the pick-me-up we all needed. ☺️ Twenty-some clients joined us for 5 regular games and 1 blackout, with $10 gift cards as prizes.

One older gentleman in the front was so excited for this. You could tell he really wanted to win, and toward the end, he did! He's going to use his $10 gift card on a special meal from McDonald's. He's really wanted that lately but didn't have the money.

We plan to continue these bingo nights, and we want YOU to be a part of it! Would your church, club, or business like to stop by with some snacks, small prizes, and call games for the clients? If so, please call Korrin at (701) 772-6600 ext. 1015. ❤

South-end neighborhoods had a chance to show their generosity during the Greater Grand Forks Young Professionals Orange Bag event. They delivered! ❤

We picked up 8 or so large bags of donated food and hygiene products, plus a 50-pound bag of rice that can feed 500 people. Thank you to the Orange Bag donors and organizers for your help stopping hunger in Grand Forks! 🥫🍚

You can see that some of our pantry shelves our empty. That's just how it's been at times over the past year. 🤷‍♀️ We really rely on events like this one and on people like you to keep the food flowing! When you clean out your pantry, run a food drive at your business, or donate money for meals, know that it's going to families in need right away.
