Heat Early Dismissal Notice – Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026

Due to high heat and humidity forecast for Wednesday, September 2, GHAPS will operate on a modified schedule:

HALF-DAY Dismissal: Duneside, K-8 buildings, and Central High School.

NORMAL Schedule: Grand Haven High School will follow its standard Early Release Wednesday schedule.

CHILD CARE: Open Door Child Care will close at 12:00 PM (Noon) across all locations.

There’s a lot to cheer about at GHAPS this week!

Grand Haven High School wrapped up the school day with a pep assembly celebrating the start of another season of Buccaneer fall sports. Tonight, the Bucs host Spring Lake for the Drawbridge Classic varsity football home opener — the first meeting between the two teams in more than 35 years — while GHHS volleyball competes today and tomorrow in the annual Battle on the Boardwalk in downtown Grand Haven.

The cheer team got everyone moving, choir students led the fight song, the band brought the energy, and student leaders shared a few reminders about sportsmanship and student section expectations. The freshmen may have needed a little extra coaching on how to get hyped, but by the end, everyone was ready to cheer on the Bucs all season long!

The assembly also gave students a chance to recognize and celebrate the many staff departments that help make GHHS a great place to learn.

Our Peach Plains staff had a little fun welcoming students and families back to school this week! They’re excited and ready for another great year together.

GHAPS staff came back together today to learn, connect, and prepare for another great school year!

We can’t wait to welcome back students in grades 1–12 tomorrow, followed by Young Fives, ECSE, and kindergarten on Thursday, and GSRP and the Preschool Development Program (PDP) next week.

We're looking forward to another great year at Grand Haven Area Public Schools!

Our new teachers and instructional staff were welcomed into the district during the orientation last week. Next up, we’re excited to welcome back all GHAPS staff during our annual Opening Day in-service day tomorrow, and we can’t wait to begin seeing students back in the hallways this Wednesday!

The 2026–2027 school year is just around the corner!

Grades 1–12 begin Wednesday, August 26, followed by Kindergarten, Young Fives, and ECSE on August 27, and GSRP and PDP on August 31.
