During this month of September, we celebrate persons in recovery, recognize those who make recovery possible, and invite every American to be part of building recovery-ready communities. The Great American Recovery recognizes that recovery is built through partnerships. Every organization, family member, employer, faith community, peer, and individuals in recovery has a role to play in helping people build healthy, fulfilling lives. National Recovery Month is an opportunity to celebrate the progress being made and lives being transformed in every community across America. Will you please join us?

SIGN UP NOW --- The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) is an evidence-based family skills training program for families that is recognized both nationally and internationally. Parents and youth attend weekly SFP skills classes together, learning parenting skills and youth life and refusal skills. They have separate class training for parents and youth the first hour, followed by a joint family practice session the second hour.
SFP skills-training has proven to be effective in reducing multiple risk factors for later alcohol and drug abuse, mental health problems, and delinquency. Participants reported:
• Increased family bonding
• Increased parental involvement
• Increased positive parenting skills
• Increase positive communication
• Increased family organization
• Decreased family conflict
• Decreased youth depression
• Decreased youth aggression
• Increased youth cooperation
• Increased number of prosocial friends
• Increased youth social competencies
• Increased youth school grades

WHY SFP WORKS. SFP is effective because it was specifically crafted to increase Protective Factors and reduce the Risk Factors that lead to both substance abuse and youth depression. SFP teaches–and has parents and youth practice–skills involved in bonding (creating warm, loving relationships), setting clear, firm boundaries (rules against antisocial behavior, including drug and alcohol use), and monitoring their children’s emotional well-being and activities.

Space is limited!! Call CNCAA today to register or find out when the next series begins – Available in both English and Spanish languages. 308-385-5520 or email [email protected]

Resource of the Month:
Navigating Mental Health and Substance Use Care: A Guide for Individuals and Families
Finding the right behavioral health services can be overwhelming, particularly for individuals and families who are seeking help for the first time. SAMHSA's new publication, Navigating Mental Health and Substance Use Care: A Guide for Individuals and Families, serves as a practical roadmap to help people understand the behavioral health care system and connect with appropriate services and supports.

The guide provides easy-to-understand information on:
• Understanding the different types of mental health and substance use treatment and recovery support services.
• Preparing for conversations with healthcare providers.
• Navigating health insurance and paying for care.
• Locating treatment, recovery support services, and crisis resources.
• Advocating for yourself or a loved one throughout the recovery journey.

Why it matters: Accessing the right care is an important step in recovery. By helping individuals and families better understand available services and what to expect, this guide empowers people to make informed decisions, engage in person-centered care, and connect with recovery supports that meet their unique needs.

Readers are encouraged to download and share this free resource with colleagues, community partners, individuals seeking services, and family members supporting a loved one's recovery.

Recovery Is More Common Than Many People Realize.....More than 70% of adults who have resolved a significant substance use problem identify as being in recovery.

Recovery is not the exception—it is a common and achievable outcome. Investing in recovery support services helps individuals improve physical and mental health, strengthen family relationships, maintain employment, and contribute to healthier communities.
