Do you know… a GISH graduate who has left a lasting mark on the world?
Do you know… Leonard Fleischer, Class of 1931?

Leonard took his Grand Island roots and used them to completely revolutionize American agriculture. As a pioneering farm manufacturer and the founder of Fleischer Manufacturing, he became a trailblazer in conservation tillage, helping farmers protect the land for generations to come. Beyond his innovations, Leonard was a powerhouse for Nebraska economic development—helping to organize the Farm Equipment Manufacturers Association and anchoring industry in our state. Most notably, he suggested the idea of a fall farm equipment show to the local Chamber, a concept that blossomed into Grand Island's very own Husker Harvest Days. Today, it stands as one of the largest agricultural shows in the world.

Islander excellence leaves a lasting legacy. If you know a GISH graduate from more than 20 years ago who has made a significant impact on society, please take a moment to nominate them for the Hall of Honor.

Do you know… a GISH graduate who is changing the world?
Do you know… Grace Abbott, Class of 1895?

Grace took her Grand Island education and used it to change the fabric of American society. As an internationally known social worker and reformer, she dedicated her life to championing the rights of women, children, and the oppressed. Her incredible 18-year career with the United States Children’s Bureau brought about the country's first child labor laws, improved immigrant protections, and laid the groundwork for maternal and child healthcare programs nationwide.
