Today is the third and final day of competition for the National 4-H Shooting Sports Championships here in Grand Island. Even with a little rain, weather has been amazingly cool this year — which is great depending on where you're from 😁 It's too chilly for the folks from Louisiana, but still too hot for people from Minnesota.

So many Americans have donated so much of their time to build this country up into what it is today, and you can do the same to celebrate our 250th national birthday. Volunteer for Stuhr Museum's United We Celebrate event this coming July 4th! Sign up today for your 2-hour shift at this monumental celebration.

Volunteers help make this community celebration possible, and we’re excited to have you be part of this historic event! Also at Fonner Park this week — in the Pinnacle Bank Expo Building and Heartland Events Center — and the Heartland Public Shooting Park is the annual National 4-H Shooting Sports Championships. Teams from 42 states are in attendance, competing in small bore rifle, small bore pistol, muzzleloading, shotgun, air pistol, air rifle, hunting skills, recurve archery and compound archery. Monday is a practice day followed by three days of competitive shooting.

The American Gelbvieh Junior Association's national show is next in the Fonner Park barns, bringing this European breed to central Nebraska. They're here from June 21-26th.

Known for his iconic wildlife photography, Thomas Mangelsen brings his exhibit A Life in the Wild with to Stuhr Museum this weekend. After traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada, the eight-year show will conclude here in the same county where Mangelsen grew up and grew to love the outdoors along the Platte River. Forty of the artist's large-scale prints will hang in the Stuhr Building from June 20th through September 7th.
