Earlier this month Grand Isle Rescue was dispatched into Isle la Motte for a mutual aid request.

This was around 10:30 in the evening, and responded with a crew of four, for an allergic reaction.

Isle la Motte is roughly 30 minutes from our station. So while en route to the patient, one of our providers called them to get updated on their condition.

This was a critical step in our response to determine how severe the reaction was, and if we need additional resources.
A severe reaction can cause: throat swelling, difficulty breathing, vomiting, and a dangerous drop in blood pressure.

The patient was transported to North West Medical in Saint Albans due to the proximity to Isle la Motte.

We returned to service around 1am.

We would like to recognize and thank our island Fire departments for all that they do for us.

Our local firefighters help rescue in more ways than just putting out fires. They assist with CPR, lifting and moving patients, driving the ambulance, scene safety and so much more.

Thank you for your continued support.

A Narcan distribution box has been placed at our town office.
Narcan is a temporary receptor blocker, and once used will only work for minutes. After that the effects might come back.
Since Narcan is temporary, 911 should be called anytime it is used.

The box is part of a larger project at the town library next door, where it will eventually be moved alongside a 911 emergency phone and an AED machine.

As we spring ahead, Grand Isle Rescue would suggest that you take some time to go over your medical documentation.

๐Ÿ“ Update your medications - remove the ones you are no longer taking, and add your new ones

๐Ÿ“‹ Have your medications and medical information listed and put on your refrigerator. - this is a standard location for EMS to look.

๐Ÿ—’๏ธ Talk to your doctor about updating or making a DNR order. - This is never easy for family members to discuss. But this gives your family peace of mind when and if the time comes that it is needed.

๐Ÿซ‚ Update Emergency contacts. - we need to know who to call. And it's not the Ghost Buster's ๐Ÿ˜†.

โš ๏ธ Make sure you life alert batteries are changed, and all content information is correct.

๐Ÿ“ฟYour medical alert tags have all the correct information.

You can find all your medications and medical information on your most recent discharge papers or on your UVM mychart account. These can be printed and reviewed by EMS in a medical emergency.
