Mesa County Valley School District 51

Mesa County Valley School District 51 School District 51 is the largest district on the West Slope of CO,
14th largest in the State. Mesa County Valley School District uses social media (e.g.

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube) to further the mission and vision of the District and regards social media as an extension of the District’s educational mission, including the promotion of respectful and thoughtful civic discourse. The District uses social media to communicate positivity and unity in our school district, as well as important information concerning the District and its s

chools, such as school-sponsored events, programs, student and staff achievements and recognitions, and other school-related subject matters and topics. The District’s use of these sites is restricted to topics and content related to legitimate educational purposes. The District’s social media sites are regularly monitored to ensure that the sites’ use is limited to the purposes discussed above and organized in a manner that enhances navigation. Thus, even when there is an opportunity to comment on a District post, the District may hide or delete comments that are unrelated to the subject matter or topic of the original post, unsuitable for a K-12 environment, inconsistent with the District’s educational mission, or interferes with the District’s obligation to provide a welcoming educational environment for all students. Any comments expressed on District social media sites in response to District content do not reflect the opinions and positions of the District, its directors, or staff. Similarly, links to other internet sites that appear in comments of other posts should not be construed as the District’s endorsement of the content or views presented on those sites. The following rules apply to all visitors to this page:
- Be Kind and Courteous. In simple terms, be nice. We are here to uplift our students and our district. There are other venues for complaints, concerns, and other topics that would be better addressed in a one-on-one fashion, including calls and emails to a specific school, the district, or a particular department.
- No Hate Speech, Bullying or Harassment – period. Any kind of this communication is not allowed and will be removed.
- Comments not related to a post will be removed. There are always options for your concerns to be heard. Please see the list below as a place to start.
- If you do not follow the rules above and continue to have your comments removed, you will also be removed from the site. Where to get help:
- Think your child might be in a peer conflict or bullying situation? Go here for more information. Or you can contact safe2tell.org.
- Not getting text messages from your school or district? Text Yes to 67587 (you can add this number to your contacts under District Texts so you know they are coming from the district and not spam)

As the school year came to a close, there were so many accomplishments and celebrations across District 51. One milestone we don't want to miss recognizing is the first graduating cohort of D51 Elevate! 🎉

D51 Elevate is District 51’s alternative teacher licensure pathway, providing new educators with mentoring, professional learning, and individualized support as they grow into confident, successful teachers.

Congratulations to the educators who completed the program and helped pave the way for future cohorts. And thank you to Melanie Balleweg, Erin Dryanski, and the team who created and launched this innovative opportunity for D51 educators.

🧸 Kindergarten Readiness: Cleaning Up 🧸

Kindergarten classrooms are shared spaces where children learn and grow together. Practicing simple cleanup habits at home, like putting toys away, cleaning up after activities, and taking care of supplies - helps build responsibility and independence.

These skills are not required for students to start kindergarten, but practicing them at home every day can make a big difference in helping your child feel more confident and ready for school.

🚽 Kindergarten Readiness: Bathroom Independence 🚽

One of the many ways children build confidence for kindergarten is by practicing bathroom independence. Simple daily routines at home can help children feel more comfortable navigating the school day and focusing on learning, friendships, and fun.

Helpful skills include:
✔️ Managing clothing independently
✔️ Using the toilet independently
✔️ Washing hands thoroughly

These skills are not required for students to start kindergarten, but practicing them at home every day can make a big difference in helping your child feel more confident and ready for school.
