The City of Grand Junction joined Colorado Mesa University and community partners this week to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new CMU Football Facility at Stocker Stadium, with Mayor Laurel Lutz sharing remarks on behalf of the City.

The project builds on a partnership that will bring an estimated $7 million in CMU-funded improvements to City-owned property while reducing ongoing costs to the City. CMU will also take on additional long-term operations and maintenance responsibilities and provide $300,000 annually to help cover operating costs currently paid by the City.

The project will enhance the overall Lincoln Park Sports Complex while preserving traditional uses of Stocker Stadium by District 51 and other community partners.

This partnership is an opportunity to invest in the future of Lincoln Park Sports Complex, make the most of an existing public asset and reduce ongoing costs to the City.

The City of Grand Junction continues to work with local, state and private partners to support more housing options for the people who live and work in our community. That work includes strategically investing City resources in projects that expand housing opportunities and leverage additional public and private investment.

Yesterday’s groundbreaking for Liberty Apartments on Orchard Mesa marked another step in that work. The City invested $938,464, along with development fee waivers, to help bring these 72 new workforce housing units to Grand Junction. The apartments will remain income-restricted for 30 years, helping preserve housing options for our community well into the future.

Liberty Apartments is one part of a much broader effort. The City has invested more than $11.8 million locally to support the construction, preservation and conversion of 164 housing units included in Grand Junction’s three-year Proposition 123 commitment. Proposition 123 is a statewide program that provides funding to communities that commit to increasing affordable housing.

At yesterday’s groundbreaking, the City joined Governor Jared Polis, Rep. Rick Taggart, Mayor Laurel Lutz, developer Aspire Residential and other partners who helped move Liberty Apartments forward. The development will serve households across a range of incomes and is being built to a net-zero energy standard.

Housing remains a priority in the City’s Strategic Plan, and projects like Liberty Apartments demonstrate how partnerships and strategic investment can help expand housing options for Grand Junction residents.

🚗 Parking Citation Amnesty Period Ends Aug. 31

There’s still time to resolve outstanding parking citations at a reduced cost before the City of Grand Junction’s Parking Boot Program resumes Sept. 1.

Through Aug. 31, eligible $100 parking citations can be paid for just $45

Grand Junction Municipal Court will also participate in Mesa County’s Warrant Day on Saturday, Aug. 29, with additional payment opportunities from noon to 3 p.m. at City Hall.

Individuals with outstanding parking citations are encouraged to take advantage of the reduced fees before the amnesty period ends.

Orchard Mesa Pool will be on the November ballot.

During the August 19 meeting, City Council unanimously approved placing a measure on the November 2026 ballot that will give voters the opportunity to decide on the future of Orchard Mesa Pool, including updates and modernization to the facility itself, and funding for its continued operation.

If approved, the measure would increase the City’s sales and use tax rate from 3.39% to 3.46% to support the pool’s ongoing operation, maintenance, and facility updates. Once full repayment has been met, the rate would decrease by 0.04%.

The ballot measure follows City Council discussions about the costs of maintaining, operating, and updating the facility, as well as feedback from the 2026 Community Satisfaction Survey, which showed support for placing the question before voters.

That's a wrap on summer camp 2026!

This summer, the Grand Junction Parks and Recreation Department ran seven awesome camps, including Little Sunshines, STARS, SCORE and Tween Camp, at spots all over town including four District 51 schools and the Colorado Mesa University Innovation Center.

Camp ran for 11 weeks, serving nearly 700 kids from families all over Grand Junction. There were countless new friendships, field trips and "guess what I did today" stories along the way. Camps filled up fast, hitting between 95-98% capacity.

We want to give a shoutout to our partners at District 51, Colorado Mesa University, and all the local organizations and activity providers who helped make the magic happen. You made this the best kind of busy for our campers and helped create some pretty special core memories along the way.

A big thanks to every kid who showed up ready for adventure and every counselor who kept the energy going all summer long. We will see you next summer, Grand Junction.

A few weeks and a herd of hungry goats can make quite a difference. Take a look at the before and after!

Working between Junior Service League Park and the Blue Heron Boat Ramp, the goats helped reduce wildfire risk, manage invasive vegetation and support the long-term health of City open spaces.

This program builds on previous fuel reduction efforts with the Grand Junction Fire Department, offering an environmentally friendly alternative that cuts down on repeated mechanical treatments.

The results: healthier land and safer neighborhoods for the season ahead.
