Ran into Mike Spradlin today, a great friend we’d not seen in a bit. He told us about a fantastic benefit event coming up soon to benefit the families of organ transplant recipients. Funds raised will go directly to the transplant patients to help relieve some of the financial burden during their time waiting for and recovery from transplant. Join us for the 3rd Annual Event on May 5. Register for the tournament below.

As many of you know Mike Spradlin received a lifesaving double lung transplant, April 30th 2021, after being diagnosed with an incurable lung disease in 2020. During our time at St Joseph's in PHX we saw firsthand just how quickly the expenses that insurance do not cover can add up. The money raised...

I learned this week of the untimely passing of a dear friend, Greg Wentzel. Greg was instrumental in helping us build the Grand Junction St. Baldrick’s head shaving event. He welcomed me many times to the Ron & Greg morning drive time radio show on K-Star to promote our fundraiser. He emcee’ed the event several times plus stepped up to shave his head, raising $$ for the cause himself. He was instrumental in helping our community raise more than $400,000 for childhood cancer research! Rest easy, good friend!

Tracey Garchar, a beloved member of our community and Executive Director of the Mesa County Department of Human Services, recently passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at age 48. Tracey was an enthusiastic supporter of our local fundraiser as Captain of the "Healthy Humanitarians" shavee/fundraising team for our local event, raising nearly $1000 for childhood cancer research along with friends and colleagues from the Departments of Human Services and Public Health. Tracey led the way by shaving his head! We are grateful for his support and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. His family has designated the St. Baldrick’s Foundation as a charity they recommend for those wishing to make donations in his memory. You can make memorial contributions at this website in his name: https://www.stbaldricks.org/events/mypage/7594/2021

With being unsure about what things will look like, we are going to keep our event virtual this year! We are ready for everyone to get registered and start fundraising. We are still looking at doing a zoom event all at the same time. We will hold the zoom event on June 26th. Time to be determined! Here is the link to register.

This St. Baldrick's Foundation event is raising money for childhood cancer research by shaving heads! Whether you decide to shave your head, volunteer, or donate, we hope you'll be a part of the excitement.

Hello all,

I wanted to touch base with everyone! We have registered the 2021 event in hopes of raising as much money as we can for the cause! I know that the COVID pandemic is still impacting our lives drastically. With that being said, it does not change the need for research and treatments for our kids that are battling cancer. I would like to get everyone's thoughts on what they would like to do! My thought for this year is that we do a virtual event! We can do a zoom event and have everyone shave their heads at the same time! I know that this is not ideal but I have reached out to a few venues and am being told that no events are being allowed in places due to compacity. Please email me back with your thoughts. I would like to get started on fundraising. Let's make the best of a tough situation but still help our cancer kiddos!

Even though we are unable to hold our annual head shaving event this year due to Covid-19, the need remains great especially in this time of the pandemic when kids and young adults whose immune systems are compromised from treatment are at increased risk. Fisher's Liquor Barn has been a great supporter over the years with their previous Lucky Charms sales and donations of items for our benefit auctions. They will be selling Lucky Charms beginning this weekend and continuing for a few weeks to come. So next time you stop in, donate a few $$ when you check out and add the name of someone you care about to YOUR Lucky Charm! Thanks, Josh and Brandi and the whole crew at Fisher's!
