Are you considering adoption and interested in learning more about the journey? Mesa County Department of Human Services (MCDHS) is offering a three-session Adoption Training series this fall to help families understand the adoption process and connect with resources and support.

The training will provide families with information and guidance at different stages of the adoption and post-permanency journey.

Adoption Training Sessions

Session 1: 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10
The MCDHS Adoption Team will walk participants through what to expect during the adoption journey and answer frequently asked questions.

Session 2: 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24
This session will feature presentations from the MCDHS Therapy Team, including Bryan Conklin on attachment and family systems and Domenica Steele on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).

Session 3: 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8
The final session will focus on family empowerment and post-permanency resources, including the Adoption & Post Permanency Support Group, post-permanency resources, resource sharing and Respite Village.

Sessions will be held at MCDHS Conference Room 1060, with virtual participation available for applicable sessions. In-person participation is highly recommended for the sessions designated for in-person attendance.

Whether you are beginning to explore adoption or are already navigating the process, these sessions are an opportunity to learn, ask questions and connect with resources available to support families.

Resume Basics | 10-11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10
Learn the fundamentals of creating a resume that highlights your skills, experience and qualifications.

Mesa County Job Fair | 2-5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16
The Mesa County Workforce Center is participating in the Statewide Workforce Colorado Career Fair. Join us in person to explore new opportunities, connect with local employers and meet talented job seekers looking for the next step in their career. The first 15 minutes of the event is reserved for veterans and eligible spouses. Employers and job seekers can learn more at mesacounty.us/jobfair

Interview Prep | 10-11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18
Build confidence and prepare for your next interview with strategies and tips to help you put your best foot forward.

Skills First Talent Development Training | 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21
This interactive workshop will help local businesses explore a skills-first approach to recruiting, hiring and retaining employees by focusing on the skills and competencies needed for success. Employers will learn practical strategies they can apply within their organizations, including skills mapping, writing skills-first job descriptions and skills-first screening and interviewing. Mesa County Partnership for Children & Families is partnering with Centro de la Familia to expand childcare access for local families.

All seven local Centro sites are now available on BridgeCare, which is a user-friendly, web-based database that directly connects families with regional childcare providers.

The expansion adds hundreds of childcare seats to the BridgeCare network.

Many Mesa County offices will close on Monday, Sept. 7, 2026, in observance of Labor Day.

This one-day closure does not include the Coroner’s Office, Criminal Justice Services, or the Sheriff’s Office's emergency functions.

Animal Services will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Labor Day.

Residents can access many county services online at mesacounty.us.
