This letter was sent out to the membership. For those that follow us here but never knew how to join, or for those that need a little reminder. We thank all of those that support the club.
Our Monthly meeting and Annual meeting will take place this Wednesday, October 8th, at 6:00.
Its never too late to join the club.
Dear Grand Marais Sportsman Club Members Old and Current,
I hope this correspondence finds you well. It is that time of year when our annual dues are coming up, so I wanted to give a recap of what the club has been involved with in the last few years and hopefully spur you to renew your membership for the remainder of 2025 and 2026. Membership dues are due before October 3rd. Our annual dues are only $35.
For those that don’t know, we put on our second annual Grand Marais Sportsman’s Club Offshore Fishing Tournament, which was a great success and grew from last year. We had some great support and sponsorships and was able to give out over $5000 in prizes. We ended up with 17 boats which participated and a great fish fry for the town the next evening.
Another great event put on was our third Annual Youth Fishing Tournament, which was a great time for those involved. Four boats were able to take out 15 kids and did a fish fry for town that evening. $1000 in prizes were handed out to the kids involved. This event is open to Burt Township School students and sons and daughters of Sportsman’s Club members for ages 12 to 18.
As always, we are very active in the winter months with our deer feeding program. We have 2 locations where we supplemental feed. It gets started after deer season when the weather begins to get cold and feed until the deer decide to head back to the woods which is generally mid-April.
There are many other events that we have been involved with that are highlighted below.
• Several Bingo dates throughout the year which have been our main fund raiser for our deer feeding program
• Our annual Golf Outing had to be cancelled but we intend to have it back in 2026.
• We provided lunch for the school students at their fish release in the Sucker River
• Several of us did our annual highway cleanup of the 3 miles we sponsor on M-77
• We are providing and distributing firewood at the crossing stations for the UP 200 dog sled race and will have another bingo event that Sunday.
• We donated to the Women’s Club for the planting of flowers throughout town
• We now have a Junior Membership for the club with 3 Junior members. If you have a son or daughter that would be interested, please contact myself or a board member for more information. Its free!)
• We have held meetings at the Community Center with the Fisheries Division of the DNR to go over what’s going on in Lake Superior, our Bay, and surrounding rivers and streams.
• We have an annual Big Buck contest for those that hunt in Burt Township
• We provide food and cook for the annual school salmon release on the sucker river in School Forest.
I am sure I missed a thing or two but it gives you an indication of what the Club gets involved with throughout the year. It only takes a couple minutes to join. You can be as active or inactive as you wish. Our meetings are not mandatory but encouraged. We would love to hear others input on what the club could get involved with and would love your support.
