Parents and caregivers are often the first to notice when something feels different. Changes in mood, sleep, appetite, or behavior may signal that a young person needs support. Supporting someone living with a mental struggle starts with Compassion, understanding, and access to care, which can make a meaningful difference.

Supporting youth mental health is a shared responsibility. Families, schools, healthcare providers, and communities all play a role in early identification and support.

“You don’t have to control your thoughts. You just have to stop letting them control you.”

To our Cook County youth and families: it’s okay to slow down, talk to someone you trust, and take things one moment at a time. Support is here.

Talking about cannabis matters and it helps keep our community safe.

As cannabis becomes more common in Minnesota, open conversations can make a real difference in rural communities like ours. When we talk honestly about cannabis use, we help keep our homes, families, workplaces, roads, and community safe. Understanding how cannabis affects health and decision‑making allows residents to make responsible choices and look out for one another.

Whether it's discussing safe use or storage, talking to youth, or checking in with someone you care about, communication builds awareness and connection.

Everyone's mental health looks different, and no two conditions are the same. However, everyone living with a mental health condition deserves love and support. During May, commit to having conversations to de-stigmatize mental health. “There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.”

Even on the hardest days along the North Shore, you are not alone. Reach out—to a friend, a neighbor, or a local resource. Hope lives here.

Supporting our mental health and well-being is equally important as our physical health. Being there for ourselves and others isn’t always easy but with practice and some help we can all make sure to be there when it matters most.
