Remembering John Engels

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of John Engels on March 19, 2025. John was a dedicated and passionate member of CPAANT, Weatherford CPAAA, and Texas CPAAA. His expertise in By-Laws and leadership as both President and Vice President of CPAANT left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working with him.

John’s contributions and commitment to our community will not be forgotten. A memorial service will be held in his honor on April 2nd at 11:00 AM at St. Stephens Catholic Church, 1802 Bethel Rd, Weatherford, TX 76086.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all who knew him. Rest in peace, John. You will be deeply missed.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the sad news of the passing of our beloved volunteer, Lynda Buchanan. Both Lynda and her husband, Curtis, were involved in a traffic collision several days ago. The couple have been a part of the Grand Prairie Police Department family since attending the Citizen Police Academy in 2020.

Lynda dedicated so much of her time and energy to supporting the officers and staff of GPPD and our community, always bringing kindness, generosity, a warm smile and laugh. Her impact was felt by everyone who knew her, and her absence leaves a deep void in our hearts.

Curtis is currently in the hospital recovering from injuries, and we hope for his healing and strength during this difficult time. Please keep Curtis and their entire family in your thoughts and prayers.

We are grateful for the time we shared with Lynda and are reminded of the lasting legacy of compassion she leaves behind.

Rest in peace Lynda with a “y”, why, because we love you. (Borrowed from one of our other volunteers, IYKYK)

Deja Vue or Round Two?? Today was the driving day for the Citizen Police Academy English class. It was exciting watching over 30 students take to the same driving course that GPPD recruits use to qualify. Students also got to role play a traffic stop as well as do some "situational driving". Thanks to Lynda, Jennifer and Curtis from our GPCPAAA crew for coming out to assist our community services officers. We are looking forward to having students from both classes become members of the GPCPAAA and helping to support our officers and staff!!

GPCPAAA is always ready to assist our Grand Prairie Police Community Service Officers with the Citizen Police Academy classes. Today was driving day for the Spanish CPA as they got to experience driving actual police vehicles through the same course as our recruits in the GPPD police academy.
