US Army Reserve Soldiers are undoubtedly some of the most valuable and versatile assets a civilian employer could ask for.
Arguably, Army Reserve Drill Sergeants bring even more to the table in their civilian careers.

Watch DS Honeycutt explain some of the benefits he has seen in his civilian career as a result of becoming a Drill Sergeant.

As a drill sergeant you are responsible for coaching, counseling, and mentoring of hundreds, if not thousands, of Soldiers as you transform them from a civilian to a combat-ready Soldier. Are you prepared to take on the task?

Did you know that the Fort Hood Education Center has GT Improvement classes? We all know that your first score probably wasn’t your best (hey, most of us have been through MEPS and get it). To become a Drill Sergeant you must have a 100 GT score; however, waivers are available down to 90. Many current USAR Drill Sergeants retake the ASVAB and improve their GT score. These classes are just one tool the Army gives you to help make it happen. #USARDrillSergeants #FortHoodDrillSergeantProgeam #ChallengeAccepted

Happy birthday to the Army’s Armor Branch! We have several 19-series MOS Drill Sergeants in our Battalion. Are you ready to join them?

Happy Birthday, Armor Branch: Combat Arm of Decision!

The Armor branch traces its origin to the Cavalry. A regiment of cavalry was authorized to be raised by the Continental Congress Resolve of December 12, 1776.

Although mounted units were raised at various times after the Revolution, the first in continuous service was the United States Regiment of Dragoons, organized in 1833. Armor became a permanent branch of the Army in 1950.

Recent publication from CALL. Did you know that Drill Sergeants from the 2/354th frequently support Cadet Command missions in addition to Basic Combat Training?

NEW! “Training to Improve Basic Combat Skills” This article illustrates how U.S. Army Cadet Command (ROTC) approached improving basic combat skills and fieldcraft through command emphasis, mission command, and the eight-step training model. While Cadet Command’s efforts are what inspired this document, the lessons and best practices are applicable for training programs for most junior Army leaders. This document was produced with the cooperation and input of USACC and ROTC Advanced Camp cadre and staff.http://usacac.army.mil/sites/default/files/publications/NFTF_BCS.pdf

History of the Campaign Hat

United States Army Drill Sergeant Hats

The current drill sergeant hat evolved from the 1883 campaign hat. That headgear was a modified (flat brim versus upturned brim) Montana Peak, which was adopted for wear by the army in 1911, and abandoned in 1942. In 1964, the hat was reintroduced to become a proud symbol of the drill sergeant.

The female drill sergeant hat came into being in 1972. It was designed by Brig. Gen. Mildred C. Bailey. The original design was taken from the Australian bush hat, and was beige in color. In 1983, the color was changed to green with the style remaining unchanged.

The drill sergeants wear the campaign hat as a testament of their demonstrated professionalism, commitment to the mission, and proven leadership. The hat further symbolizes the lineage of the past, present and future of the U.S. Army.

General information

The 2/354th Regiment, 1st Brigade, 95th Division page OPSEC Rules: 1. Do not post exact deployment dates or redeployment dates – stick to generalities like “Spring” 2. Do not reveal camp or FOB locations for future movements or deployments, including nearby cities. After the deployment is officially announced by Military officials, you may discuss locations that have been released, normally on the major city, province or Country level (I,e Baghdad or Kabul are large enough places to name). 3. Do not discuss convoy routes (“we travelled through Takrit on our way to X”) 4. Detailed information on the mission, capabilities or morale of a unit 5. Specific names or actual nicknames 6. Personnel transactions that occur in large numbers (Example: pay information, powers of attorney, wills, etc) 7. Details concerning security procedures, response times, tactics 8. Don’t discuss equipment or lack thereof, to include training equipment 9. Don’t speculate about future operations 10. If posting pictures, don’t post anything that could be misconstrued or used for propaganda purposes. A good rule of thumb is to look at your picture without your caption or explanation and consider if it could be re-captioned to reflect poorly on coalition forces. For example, your image might show your Soldier rescuing a child from a blast site, but could be re-captioned to insinuate that the child being captured or harmed. (it’s happened!) 11. Avoid the use of count-up or count-down tickers for the same reason as rule #1 12. Be very careful if posting pictures of your loved one. Avoid images that show significant landmarks near their base of operations, and black out last names and unit affiliations 13. Do not, ever, post information about casualties (coalition or enemy) before the official release of the information. 14. Do not pass on rumors (“I heard they’re coming home early”, etc) If you have any questions, contact your (or your sponsor’s) unit OPSEC manager.”
