On Friday, firefighters Garcia, Brantley, and Rios were recognized by Medical City Arlington for their excellent care of a STEMI (heart attack) in June.
Immediately upon contact, the firefighters performed an ECG and recognized the heart attack. By alerting the hospital before leaving the patient's house, the hospital's cardiologist and cath lab team were waiting for them as they arrived at the Emergency Room. The patient is now recovering and doing well.
As you plan your 4th of July celebration, please remember the dangers of fireworks. Fireworks are NOT allowed within the City of Grand Prairie.

Prehospital personnel are the first providers of care to patients suffering from cardiac emergencies. A crucial part of patient care is the role of emergency medical services (EMS), often setting the course for the patient's outcome. It is with great pride that we recognize and appreciate the excellent lifesaving work done by our firefighters every day!
For the ninth year in a row, the Grand Prairie Fire Department received the Mission: Lifeline EMS Gold award for following the latest research-based standards for severe heart attacks.
A key component of Mission: Lifeline is the collaboration between prehospital and hospital providers. The AHA recognizes the vital importance EMS providers deliver to the overall success of Mission: Lifeline STEMI Systems of Care. The correct tools and training allow EMS providers to rapidly identify incidences of STEMI, promptly notify the destination center, and trigger an early response from the awaiting hospital personnel.
Yesterday evening, GPFD responded to two structure fires.
At approximately 3:38 p.m., GPFD responded to a structure fire in the 2900 block of Alouette Drive. On arrival, crews found smoke showing from a first floor apartment unit and began a fast attack. No injuries were reported. (Pictured below)

RETIRED ARSON K9 MOLLY'S LAST CALL
We are sad to share that GPFD's retired Arson K9, Molly, passed away yesterday afternoon from cancer. Molly joined GPFD in 2016, assisting Lieutenant Briggs as an accelerant sniffing K9. During her career, she was integral in helping GPFD and other regional departments arrest arsonists. In 2022, Molly retired and was able to live a full life with her handler, Lieutenant Briggs.
Rest peacefully, dear friend, and thank you for your service. Your paw prints will forever remain imprinted in our hearts.
At approximately 5:37 p.m., on May 5th, GPFD responded to a report of a possible drowning at Joe Pool Lake. A witness reported that the swimmer was last seen near the swim beach area, where he did not resurface. The Public Safety Dive Team conducted a search and rescue, in which the team located a male in his mid-twenties underwater. The swimmer was then transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The male swimmer was not wearing a life vest. The identity of the deceased will be released by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
This is the first drowning at Joe Pool Lake for 2024. As the lake season begins, GPFD strongly encourages the public to wear a life vest or an appropriate personal flotation device near or in the water.
