When thunder roars … go indoors! Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to the storm to be struck by lightning. Grand Rapids Public Utilities wants its customers to be prepared for severe weather situations. If you’re outdoors, seek shelter in a sturdy building, stay away from windows, avoid electrical equipment and plumbing. Remember to bring pets indoors. Get off the lake even if the fish are biting! This outage is necessary to complete system maintenance and improve reliability of electric service.
To help protect your equipment during restoration, we recommend unplugging sensitive electronics such as TVs, computers, routers, and gaming systems prior to the outage. Customers should also ensure stoves, space heaters, and similar appliances are turned off before power is restored.
Customers who rely on electrically powered medical equipment should ensure backup power arrangements are in place prior to the outage.
Please note:
• Crews will work to restore power as quickly and safely as possible
• Estimated restoration times may change depending on field conditions
• If your power is restored, please wait a few minutes before reconnecting electronics and restarting large appliances
• If your outage matches the planned outage area and timeframe listed above, there is no need to report it to dispatch
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete this important work.
