On Thursday, August 6, the Grand Rapids Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression held a small vigil at Garfield Park for Corey Ruiz, a man executed by police Madison, Wisconsin. As a chapter of the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, a fundamental tenet of our organization is to express solidarity - Locally, nationally and internationally - with victims of police violence and repression.
From Grand Rapids, MI: Justice for Corey Ruiz!

The Grand Rapids Alliance Against Racist & Political Repression stands firmly against police and ICE collaboration. We demand ICE get out of every city in the United States. Earlier today around 9:15am one of our members witnessed ICE and GRPD on Fuller and Lake clearly coordinating on searching the neighborhood. GRPD approached a residence in the neighborhood but left the scene when residents didn’t open their door.
Everyone has legal rights and when it comes to law enforcement it’s important to enact these rights when under threat of GRPD or ICE. GRPD policy clearly states “GRPD is neither responsible for, nor has the authority to, enforce federal civil immigration laws used to detain or remove undocumented immigrants from the United States.” Yet their collaboration has been clearly documented by many residents of Grand Rapids just as our member documented in the photo below. GRPD and the mayor may deny these claims but they make no attempts to hide their criminal conduct before our very eyes. It is up to the community of Grand Rapids to demand an end to GRPD and ICE collaboration.

Justice for Corey Ruiz! Join us for a vigil honoring the life of Corey Ruiz who was executed by Madison police on Wednesday July 22nd.

When: Thursday August 6th at 6pm
Where: Garfield Park on the corner of Madison and Burton

On Wednesday July 22nd, multiple MPD officers wrestled Ruiz to the ground and shot him at point blank range, executing him in broad daylight. Large protests immediately followed in Madison, demanding justice for Corey Ruiz and community control of the police.

As we honor Ruiz's life, we must also recommit ourselves to the fight to stop police crimes and build the power in our communities that we need to take the reins of policing and public safety in our cities. Those communities that have faced the brunt of police tyranny will be the ones to put an end to police killings, ICE kidnappings, and wrongful convictions.

In coordination with the national call to action from NAARPR we demand:
Justice for Corey Ruiz!
Killer cops off our streets!
End police terror!
Community control of the police now!

The Grand Rapids Alliance Against Racist & Political Repression stands in solidarity with Nadia Topete.
Nadia Topete is a 21-year-old Chicano
immigrant rights activist who was twice subpoenaed by FBI agents. She organizes with Centro Community Service Organization (Centro CSO) in Boyle Heights and who’s family has been the target of ICE in the past.
Nadia most recently faced off against the Grand Jury and exercised her right to remain silent. The truth of the matter is Topete did nothing wrong. This is yet another attempt by the Trump administration to silence immigrant right activists as ICE terrorizes our neighborhoods.
Topete took a courageous step by exercising her rights, however Topete still needs our support. To help cover her campaign and attorney costs, Centro CSO is asking for donations to be provided either via Venmo or Zelle (323) 580-3764. It is also not an accident that this comes during more horrific murders in which ICE agents kill during traffic stops and detainment. It is time we stand up against this injustice and put an end to ICEs criminal conduct. HANDS OF NADIA TOPETE!
