Last week, we were honored to have a seat at the table during the 2nd Annual Michigan Elder Justice Conference, hosted by SafeSeniors of West Michigan.

Our own Kristyn Merkle joined a panel discussion moderated by Chris Becker, sharing with nearly 300 law enforcement officers, prosecutors, social workers, and community professionals how to develop and sustain strong multidisciplinary coalitions that better protect older adults.

Through collaborations like the Safe Aging Coalition and other community partnerships, we know that preventing elder abuse requires all of us working together.

Before receiving meals through Revive & Thrive Project, a United States Veteran and Kent County resident faced mobility difficulties due to multiple medical conditions.

Revive & Thrive was able to provide medically tailored meals to best suit the client's needs during recovery. She says, "The meals helped me think more about my healing," not about cooking and grocery shopping.

Through this service, the participant learned more about nutrition and healthy eating. She was inspired to eat more fruits and vegetables, reduced her stress, saved money, and felt less alone. To find supportive services near you, visit www.aaawm.org/services.

Did you know that we have volunteer opportunities at the Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan? Michigan State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) volunteers provide free and unbiased guidance to Medicare beneficiaries and their families.

You can become a SHIP volunteer to help community members make informed decisions about their Medicare plan(s). Visit aaawm.org/volunteer to learn more and apply to be a SHIP volunteer.

July is Disability Pride Month! The Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan (AAAWM) is proud to celebrate this month and partner with inclusive organizations that support those with disabilities.

On July 26th, we recognize the 36th Anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), an important civil rights law that works to ensure everyone has the same rights and opportunities regardless of ability.

⏱️60-Seconds of Senior Info: The Summer is the perfect time to relax and recharge for the busy months ahead, and this includes thinking about what resources you or a loved one might need in the future.

This can mean learning more through an educational session hosted by the Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan (AAAWM). We offer programs year-round to help older adults, caregivers, and professionals learn more about resources in the community that support aging independently.

As we look ahead, we're excited to partner with Kent County Community Action (KCCA) on their HOME Renewal for Seniors program, dedicated to helping seniors with home repairs that keep them living at home.
