The vault is open!

A special display at the Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids features the Northwest Ordinance of 1787, on loan from the US National Archives. The exhibit is free and open to the public until November 1.

Drafted by the Confederation Congress at the same time as the Constitution, the Ordinance outlined a framework for government in the northwest territory, defining the rights guaranteed in that territory, and creating a process for admitting new states to the United States.

Happy !

Gerald Ford “spent one of the greatest summers of my life” as a seasonal ranger at Yellowstone National Park in 1936. He returned to Yellowstone on August 29, 1976, and spoke about his plans to ask Congress for funding to increase the amount of land set aside for national parks, recreation areas, and wildlife sanctuaries. “I remember as a ranger the first time I stood alone on Inspiration Point over at Canyon Station looking out over this beautiful land,” he said in his remarks. “I thought to myself of how lucky I was that my parent’s and grandparent’s generation had the vision and the determination to save it for us. Now it is our turn to make our own gift outright to those who will come after us 15 years, 40 years, 100 years from now.”

After his speech President Ford toured part of Yellowstone, going out to see the view at Artist Point. He also met with current park rangers and Wayne Replogle, a National Park Ranger Emeritus who had supervised him in 1936.

in 1975, President Gerald R. Ford congratulated the graduating cadets at commencement ceremonies at West Point - The U.S. Military Academy in New York.

"To combine the qualities of good citizens and good soldiers, the ability to lead and the ability to obey leadership, to use your intellectual powers and the judgment to the fullest within the stern demands of discipline and duty– these are the personal challenges worthy of the highest callings to which man aspires.

I know that each of you will meet them, as have all the West Pointers who pledge themselves to duty, honor and to country."

On display now!

This table, gifted to President Dwight D. Eisenhower by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, bears an inlaid copy of the D-Day battle plan used by the President when he commanded the invasion from England's shores—an enduring reminder of shared wartime sacrifice. During the Queen’s 1957 State Visit, Eisenhower wore the British Order of Merit awarded to him by King George VI after World War II.

Eisenhower explained that Americans’ affection for the monarchy reflected a broader affinity for Britain itself, a sentiment later echoed by President Ford during the Bicentennial. This visit marked the Queen’s final official trip to the United States before 1976.
