The Grand Rapids Housing Commission (GRHC) Family Self-Sufficiency Program offers GRHC Section 8 and Public Housing program participants a chance to accrue funds in an escrow account when a change in employment results in higher income and an increase in the household's share of monthly rent. The HUD-supported program sets aside the amount of any rent increase for the family, with the escrowed fun

ds made available when the head of household completes program requirements; these include maintaining employment and being free of TANF aid for the last year of participation. Escrow accrues for up to five years.
