Our next café will be on May Day—May 1st.

May’s café returns to on S. Division in Grand Rapids on the first day of the month. OTONO is a cafe, but also a sustainable fashion / vintage clothing retail and community space. We will meet in the cozy space toward the back of the store.

Back by popular demand, this is our second Friday night café. We will start with introductions at 5.30pm, so please arrive early to settle in, especially if you plan to purchase a drink. (Of course, please join us whenever you can make it there.) 

In case you’re wondering, what is a climate café?, it is “a simple, hospitable, empathetic space where [feelings] and uncertainties about our climate & ecological crisis [and related political crises] can be safely expressed.”

Climate Café GR is a nonjudgmental space open to anyone in Grand Rapids down to explore eco-emotions in a justice-oriented group setting.

“Happy Earth Day” is a customary refrain you have probably heard today. Whatever you’re feeling or experiencing related to the earth and its condition and our own, it all belongs. And we hope you will bring it to our next gathering on May 1 🩵

This month, which is Earth Month, we have the opportunity to hold a second April café—this time as part of ’s Earth Day Fest, held at City High Middle School. Earth Day Fest also features a repair cafe and other activities (learn more at https://www.crestongr.com/events/earthdayfest).

​​​This is a weekend, afternoon café held the last hour of the 12-4pm Fest. With only an hour this time, will start with introductions at 3pm, so please arrive early to settle in. (Of course, please join us whenever you can make it there.) We will conclude at 4pm, a one-hour session.

Yesterday’s April climate café group couldn’t be contained to just one photo!

While it was raining outside, we were all in ’s cozy back room speaking about our inner weather, the political weather systems around us, and how it all is showing up in our beings here at the start of April aka Earth Month.

Thanks to all who showed up and brought the realness. It’s no small thing to come out to a new social space and talk about difficult topics. And thanks to LMC for having us in their space.

For our regular café in April, we are headed back to Last Mile Cafe () on Hall Street in Grand Rapids during the noon hour. We will gather in meeting space toward the back of the store.

This is a midday café in hopes of this time working for folx’ schedules who cannot do evenings. We will start with introductions at 12pm, so please arrive early to settle in, especially if you plan to purchase a drink. (Of course, please join us whenever you can make it there.) We will conclude at 1pm, a tight one-hour session.

Our March café was Friday—and we had a lot to talk about. Thanks to everyone for showing up with heart, authenticity, and respect. We collectively made this space all that it was for one another. (Check stories for some community announcements.)

Big thanks to for hosting us in their final hours of business and letting us post up in one of their shop’s numerous cozy sitting areas. It was so nice to be there.

Folx who have joined us or have meant to: there was a lot of interest in more Friday evening cafés. We want to keep a variety of times to accommodate different schedules, but what do you think? Would you like to see more Friday pm cafés? Take the poll below.

Wednesday’s café group. It’s been a heavy January for many of us, with much to unpack about the weeks prior to this monthly café. Thanks to each one who brought their full selves and created community around their experiences (not all participants pictured here).

And thanks to for hosting us in the middle of the day at their cafe. (And also for being proudly in solidarity with the national ICE Out! movement—it matters.)

We’re committed to our cafés remaining liberation-oriented spaces for many forms of political grief, anxiety, distress, inspiration, and more. That’s because is never just about nature, but about politics and social injustice.

It’s been an intense January so far. Let’s talk about it and hold space for one another at our first monthly café of 2026.

January’s café will meet at Scorpion Hearts Club () on Wealthy St. on Wednesday, January 28th.

It will take place during the middle of the day to enable those on lunch break or those otherwise occupied in evenings to participate. We will be at a regular table during Scorpion Hearts’ regular hours. (You can purchase espresso drinks if you’d like.)

We will start with introductions at 12:30 pm, so please arrive early to settle in and purchase a drink if you wish. (Of course, join whenever you can make it.) We will fit a full session into the hour!

The last café of the year 2025—and whew, what a year it was.

Today our small group gathered in the back room (thank you for hosting us!) and reflected on our year/s, what’s stirring and humming in culture, the importance of modalities that help us truly feel > avoid, and how we’re approaching the turn of the calendar year. This was a group conversation and intentions to return to!

Thanks to the wider community for showing up and bringing the difficult-to-express parts of existence into our shared space throughout this year, wherever and whenever you’ve been able to join us. It has been an important form of community to create together in 2025 and no doubt will continue to be going forward.

As we look toward the turn into the new year, there is not a January date at this time, but please watch (and even better, subscribe to) our lu.ma/climatecafegr event page for new dates and details. We (Nancy, Nate, and you, the community making this happen with us) are looking to try some new things in 2026 and we will value your continued engagement, feedback, and sharing the space with your friends and loved ones who would be served by space to process the big climate+ feelings. More ahead.

To close out 2025, December’s café returns to Last Mile Cafe () on Hall St SE. This month’s cafe will take place during the middle of the day for those who can join us on lunch break. And it will be in Last Mile’s back room during regular hours.

There will be batch brew coffee provided, and you can purchase espresso drinks if you’d like.

We will start with introductions at 12pm, so please arrive early to settle in and purchase a drink or snack if you wish. (Of course, join whenever you can make it.) We will fit a full session into the hour!
