Want to Show Up for Michigan's kids but short on time to volunteer? There's another way in.

Michigan Children's Champions give each month, many at the $30 level — a dollar for each of the 30+ counties Michigan CASA serves. That sustained support funds volunteer training, strengthens local programs, and keeps the work going long after the spotlight fades.

June is Pride Month — and at Michigan CASA, belonging isn't seasonal. It's our everyday mission. LGBTQIA+ youth in foster care often experience unique challenges, so it’s critical that we give CASA volunteers the resources they need to effectively support a child, no matter the situation. That’s why we include practical sessions at our State Conference each year, like 2025’s “Building Safety with LGBTQ+ Youth in Care”, facilitated by the Ruth Ellis Institute.

Every child deserves someone in their corner. Show up with us at michigancasa.org/volunteer.

June is National Family Reunification Month — and it's central to what CASA volunteers do every day.

Whenever safe and appropriate, helping children return to their families is the desired outcome. CASA volunteers gather the information judges need to make that call. About 47% of children who exit foster care each year return home to a parent or primary caregiver — CASA helps make sure that happens safely, and that kids still have someone working for them, no matter the situation.

Safe reunification. Stable outcomes. One volunteer at a time. Visit michigancasa.org/volunteer.

Meet Carlos Kulas-Dominguez, our new Partner Engagement Manager!
Carlos brings a background in nonprofit leadership, community engagement, and values-aligned partnership-building to his role at Michigan CASA — with experience spanning organizations like Camp Blodgett, the Grand Rapids Chamber, Cherry Health Foundation, and Broadway Grand Rapids. His exposure to Family Court and child-welfare-adjacent experiences deepened his belief that every child deserves a consistent, trained adult in their corner. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Education with a Fine Arts minor from Grand Valley State University.
When he is not at work, you can find him adventuring with his hubby (Disney, especially), exploring the map, and enjoying life in Michigan with his family and sassy fur kid, Chai Foster. Oh, and he spent his senior year of high school in Finland — so he brings a truly global perspective to West Michigan.
We are so glad he is part of the team. 💙

Have you joined our Show Up campaign yet? One of the easiest actions to take is becoming a Michigan Children's Champion! That means giving just $30 monthly, one for each of the 30+ counties Michigan CASA serves.
Your recurring support helps us plan ahead, train volunteers, and reach more of Michigan's children in foster care. It's not simply a gift. It's a commitment to showing up — month after month, for kids who need it most. Become a Michigan Children's Champion today: michigancasa.org/donate/

Here's a number that stays with us: 8,500+.
That's how many children in Michigan's foster care system don't have a CASA volunteer right now. No one appointed by a judge to sit with them, learn their story, and make sure their voice is heard.
CASA volunteers aren't legal professionals. They're people — teachers, retirees, neighbors, parents — who make time to show up for one child, consistently, for as long as the case lasts.
If you've been thinking about it, May is the perfect month to take that first step.

This month, we celebrated more than 4 decades of advocacy at our It Takes All Of Us Gala — and we left the room with a challenge for the next 60 days.
May is Foster Care Awareness Month. June is National Reunification Month. As we celebrate these important moments for awareness, here's where we stand: more than 10,000 children are in Michigan's foster care system right now. Today, 656 trained volunteers serve 1,388 of them — about 13% of the kids who need someone in their corner.
We're spending May & June working to change that number.
Our campaign goals:
✅ 42 new volunteer inquiries (celebrating 42 years of CASA work in Michigan)
✅ 10 new Michigan Children's Champions (monthly donors)

What an incredible evening at our 11th Annual Fundraising Gala! ✨

It truly takes all of us to make this mission possible, and we are so grateful for every person who showed up, gave generously, and helped make the night such a success. Thank you to our amazing emcee, Chef Jenna Arcidiacono, our partners, sponsors, donors, volunteers, and attendees for standing with children and families across Michigan. Together, we celebrated impact, shared powerful stories, and strengthened a mission that changes lives every day. 💙

We couldn’t do this without you!
