Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker

Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker Protecting the rights, safety, and security of Kent County residents through diligent efforts to prosecute criminal offenses in Kent County.

The Kent County Prosecuting Attorney appears for the State or County in all criminal prosecutions in Circuit Court and District Court, as well as appearances in delinquency, neglect, mental incompetency, and adult guardianship proceedings in both Probate Court and the Family Division of the Circuit Court. The Prosecuting Attorney shares jurisdiction with the Michigan Attorney General for any crime

that is committed in Kent County, but is independent of that State office. The Prosecuting Attorney is an elected official with a four-year term, chosen at the time of the Presidential election, on the partisan ballot. The office is divided into the following divisions: Criminal, Appellate, Family Law and Juvenile. Each division has specific attorneys assigned to it and is structured to serve that division's unique needs. Additionally, the Victim/Witness Unit of the office performs services for victims of crime as mandated under the Crime Victims Rights Act.

Great way to end the week! Thanks to the West Michigan Welcome Plan allowing us to share a table and some time with them on Friday and Saturday at the Grand Rapids Asian Pacific Festival. Wonderful event and beautiful weather for it. Lawrence Boivin got a guilty verdict of 2nd Degree Murder in a trial, and our appeals division continued on a roll with the successful defense of another murder conviction in the Court of Appeals. Nice job Kim Manns on that one!

Nice win for our appeals division today! APA Audra Blodgett did a wonderful job in front of the Court of Appeals and got a published decision upholding the sentencing of a convicted s*x offender. Hasn't been easy for any office to get a win in the appellate courts the last few years, so nice work Audra making sure this sentence was upheld!

Happy to attend and support Puertas Abiertas and their "Evening of Hope" tonight! They are great partners in DVAN and do so much to support victims of domestic violence in Kent County. The shoes the victims made were really great to see.
