The new Station 10 on Division Avenue is officially open!

In the words of Chief Brown "This new facility reflects our commitment to strengthening public safety and investing in the future of our neighborhoods." This is the very first fire station in the state of Michigan with bilingual signage. The new station's modern design features private dorms, kitchen and dining areas and a drive-through apparatus bay.

We are excited to enhance our emergency response times and better serve our community!

GRFD members are getting hands on experience during our Truck Operations Course, sharpening the skills needed to safely and effectively operate aerial apparatus.

From aerial placement and positioning to ladder operations and elevated access, these skills are critical to successful fireground operations. Training like this reinforces our commitment to operational readiness, teamwork, and excellence on every call.

Three members of the Grand Rapids Fire Departments Technical Rescue Team recently participated in an Aerial Rigging for Technical Rescue training hosted by the Wayland Fire Department and presented by Rescue 2 Training.

The hands-on training focused on safely incorporating aerial apparatus into technical rope rescue operations, including rigging techniques, understanding forces placed on aerial devices, and recognizing the capabilities and limitations of different aerial platforms.

Continued training like this helps our members sharpen their skills, work safely with specialized equipment, and remain prepared for the complex technical rescue incidents our community may encounter.

A big congratulations to Kara Johnson who was recently promoted to Battalion Chief!

Chief Johnson has been with the Grand Rapids Fire Department for 23 years and has been a standout employee from the beginning. She has been an officer with the GRFD for the last 9 years, and her hard work and dedication to the job has not gone unnoticed. She spent the last 7 years at Kalamazoo station and knows the south side of the city like the back of her hand!

Congratulations to Jason Zamarron on his promotion to Captain today!

Captain Zamarron has been with the Grand Rapids Fire Department for 21 years and most recently has been a Lieutenant on Engine 2 at our Martin Luther King Jr Station. Captain Zamarron brings a wealth of knowledge to the department through tech rescue, extrication, and hazmat among many other skills. We have no doubt he will continue to excel in his new role!
