Michigan Democrats to Hold General Election Kickoff With Statewide Ticket in Detroit

Event to feature special guest Pete Buttigieg

DETROIT — On Friday, August 7, the Michigan Democratic Party will kick off the general election with a rally in Detroit featuring the statewide Democratic ticket, including the Democratic nominees for Governor, U.S. Senate, Attorney General, and Secretary of State, as well as former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg.

We will come together to outline the stakes of this November’s election, including how Democrats are fighting to lower costs and protect Michiganders’ healthcare. The statewide Democratic ticket will underscore how Donald Trump’s allies like Mike Rogers, John James, Perry Johnson, Doug Lloyd, and Anthony Forlini have all lined up behind Trump’s disastrous agenda that’s raised grocery, gas, healthcare, and utility prices on Michigan families.

The Michigan Democratic Party’s coordinated campaign, One Team Michigan, is committed to electing Democrats up and down the ballot. With staff, offices, and volunteers throughout the state, Michigan Democrats are organizing to knock doors, call voters, and emphasize the stakes of the November election.

Quarterly Meeting Review

Call to Nominating Convention

MDP’s Nominating Convention is August 29, 2026, in Lansing. Unlike the Endorsement Convention held in April 2026, this convention formally nominates the post-primary statewide Democratic slate which will include our Governor and Senatorial candidates. And like past conventions, MDP members will be asked to vote on the nominees. You must be a member of the Michigan Democratic Party no later than July 30, 2026, to vote at this convention.

The afternoon of the Convention will feel like a celebration of a great slate of Democrats for Michigan and will include speeches from statewide nominees and the selection for Lieutenant Governor. MI3CD members will meet at 1:00 PM.

Grab a Friend or Two and Watch Together!
Diversity, Unity and Thanksgiving Dinner

Despite the catastrophe created and maintained by Republicans in our country, Michigan Democrats are celebrating great candidates, many of whom are in primary races. Though each of us have primary favorites, with good reason, news cycles continue to feature Michigan as a pathway to curtailing the Republican nightmare in Washington, we get it; we matter…we must be focused and fierce.

To further understand who we are and the importance of what we do, we’re sharing with you a brief video created by MI3CD Vice Chair Gary Stark. Many of you also know him as Professor Emeritus of History GVSU, and as Vice Chair of the Kent County Democratic Party, which generously allowed us to share the video.
Gary describes the Michigan Democratic Party as a coalition and discusses such groups in history that have united to overcome nightmarish administrations, while improving the lives of all citizens.
