🐾 Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

Today is all about celebrating the unconditional love, goofy personalities, wagging tails, and big hearts that make dogs so special. ❤️

And here at Kent County Animal Shelter, we think the best way to celebrate is by helping a shelter dog find their forever home. 🏡🐶 To celebrate, today and today only, all dog adoption fees are reduced to just $70!

There are dogs at KCAS waiting for someone to see what we see every day, a loyal companion, a best friend, a couch buddy, an adventure partner, and a whole lot of love just waiting to be shared.

We want to take a minute to thank two very special people!

A huge thank-you to Layla and Abby, who spent their time running a lemonade stand and raised an incredible $150 for the animals at Kent County Animal Shelter!

And then, their amazing parents matched their donation, turning their $150 into a $300 gift to KCAS! 💕 What an incredible example of generosity, compassion, and teaching kids the power of giving back.

This thoughtful donation will help us provide some of the little things that make a BIG difference for our shelter dogs, from treats and toys to medical care and other needs while they wait for their forever homes.

Layla and Abby, thank you for thinking of the animals and using your lemonade stand to make their lives a little brighter. And thank you to your parents for encouraging and matching their generosity. We are so grateful for your entire family! 🐶❤️

Ziti Goes Backstage 🎸🐾

Ziti had a pretty unforgettable field trip Saturday! Thanks to our partnership with GLC Live at 20 Monroe, one of our adoptable dogs gets to step outside the shelter for a day and meet the incredible artists who come through the venue.

This weekend, Ziti got to meet Sevendust and Theory of a Deadman! 🎶🐶

And apparently, Ziti found herself a new backstage buddy in Theory of a Deadman drummer Joey Dandeneau. Joey spent a lot of time getting to know Ziti, and he was just as interested in getting to know KCAS. We had some great conversations about shelter capacity, adoptions, volunteers, and all the different ways our shelter serves the community.

These field trips are about so much more than getting an adoptable dog out for the day. They give our animals new experiences, new people to meet, and another chance to show the world what great companions they can be.

We're incredibly grateful to GLC Live at 20 Monroe, the artists, and the crews who welcome our shelter dogs behind the scenes. ❤️

And Ziti? She may have just added “rock star” to her résumé. 🤘🐾

Cute little Rosebud was adopted this afternoon, but Chop is still looking for a family to call his own. The shelter is open Saturday from 10am to 1pm. No appointment needed to stop by and meet all of our adoptable pets, including Chop!

Lucy is waiting for you!

Loving (and living with) Lucy is so easy. 💖

She’s a breeze to walk, calmly exploring and following all the interesting neighborhood smells. She’s affectionate, but not clingy. She’ll entertain herself or settle in for a nap while her humans are busy. (Bonus: her dream-twitches are exceptionally cute. 🥰)

Lucy has so much love to give and deserves a forever family of her own!

Marvel is waiting for YOU! We open at 1:00 pm today, no appointment needed to meet this beautiful boy!

We think Marvel has the perfect name. ❤️

This handsome 2-year-old Shepherd/Husky mix is happiest when he has a job to do—and getting the chance to master the agility climb brought Marvel (and us!) a whole lot of joy. 🥰

Marvel likes his people and enjoys pets, but he’s not a Velcro dog. He’s independent, confident, and the kind of guy who goes off to do his own thing but always checks back in with his people.

Right now, though, Marvel is getting stressed in his kennel. He misses having his people, and his current space is too small for a Shepherd boy who needs room to move and something to do.

So, Shepherd fans, please come through for Marvel. ❤️

Come and meet Marcus today!!!

🎉Marcus was adopted! 🎉

From his first sniff on the trail to his first splash in Lake Michigan, Marcus—and his volunteers—had an unforgettable day. More importantly, we got to see just what an easy, adaptable companion he is.

Marcus rode calmly to Saugatuck Dunes State Park and patiently waited to hit the trail. Along the way, he greeted people who stopped to admire him, walked past other dogs without reacting, and was perfectly content to explore the world one sniff at a time.

At the beach, the waves caught his attention. He watched them carefully, took his time, and then decided they were worth investigating. Before long, Marcus was splashing into Lake Michigan, discovering that new experiences can be pretty fun.

Field trips give shelter dogs a chance to get out of the kennel, but they also give us a chance to learn who they are. Today, Marcus showed us a dog who is calm, curious, and happiest simply spending time with his people.

By the afternoon, Marcus was back in his kennel.

Just a few hours earlier, he had been hiking the dunes, greeting new people, and discovering Lake Michigan for the first time.

We'd love for his next adventure to end somewhere different—with a family of his own.
