The Crime Lab also analyzes samples taken from fires to help determine cause.

May 8th is an extremely important day for the Lake County Crime Lab! The lab has not had any additional funding since 1999 even though it has to stay certified and keep updating equipment necessary for the proper analysis of evidence for the adjudication of cases here in Lake County. If it weren’t for the crime lab there would have been several cases that were unsolved with guilty going free or innocent being incarcerated.
The Crime Lab is asking for an additional $14 annually per $100,000 home valuation - less than $1.25 per month. The laboratory is pivotal in ensuring justice is served equitably. So many crimes are solved here in Lake County that would go unsolved without the Crime Lab. Crimes that involve our homes, our family spaces.
The Lab asks for your support on May 8th and if possible, your assistance in spreading the word about the lab. Please visit the Lake County Crime Laboratory page to view their publications - cases solved, services provided, and the personnel who make the lab shine.
Please support the levy on May 8th and vote YES!

UL Firefighter Safety Research Institute

On October 10, 2017 the FSRI team conducted a full-scale experiment in 1200 sq. ft ranch style house to demonstrate the importance of closed doors as a passive fire protection measure. The burn was held at the Delaware County Emergency Services Training Center in Sharon Hill, PA, where FSRI had constructed the model home for other fire research. The doors to two bedrooms were closed, while a third bedroom’s door was left open. The fire, set in the living room, was allowed to burn until it started to become ventilation limited. At this point the front door was opened. Approximately ten minutes after ignition, suppression occurred. Within that time levels of heat, oxygen and other gases all reached life-threatening levels in the room with an open door while the rooms with closed doors maintained conditions that were far more tenable. Watch our video and visit our webpage(link below) to see the temperature and gas levels of the bedrooms as well as 360 views from the fire room and each of the bedrooms in the house. https://ulfirefightersafety.org/posts/close-before-you-doze-fullscale-test-part-ii.html

Special thanks to Johnson Funeral Home and Bob's Garage & Towing for also participating in the Mock Crash.

No fatalities or injuries on scene, however, PCFD assisted in rescuing a cat who was revived by our own FF Lemmberbrock. With a little oxygen and a trip to the vet, kitty should be okay.

As always, thank you to Eric Silvi for the action shots.
