Don't forget to inspect your fire extinguishers during your spring cleaning routine.

You should have at least one class ABC fire extinguisher in your home and kept somewhere that you can easily access it in a fire emergency.

Check the entire extinguisher for any signs of damage.
Check the gauge to ensure it has the proper pressure.
Check the safety pull-pin to prevent leaks or accidental discharge.

Remember: PASS to use a fire extinguisher.
P - Pull the pin.
A - Aim the hose/nozzle at the base of the fire.
S - Squeeze the handle.
S - Sweep side to side

We are a week into Spring and the Grand Saline Fire Marshal's Office would like to encourage everyone to add a few things to your spring cleaning to-do lists.

1) Clean out your dryer vents. Not just cleaning the lint filter, but actually cleaning the entire vent system from your dryer, through the vent hose and to the outside of your home. Excessive lint accumulation is a frequent cause of home fires that originate from the dryer.

2) Continue to check & test your smoke alarms. Also be sure to check and test your carbon monoxide alarms and practice your home fire escape plans.

3) Inspect electrical cords for damage. Damaged electrical cords have been the cause of many fires due to electrical shorts and overheating from increased resistance.

4) Keep space heaters clean & clear. Also keeping flammable objects away from heaters and other open flames.

5) Maintain a clear and defensible space around the exterior of your home. During increased wildfire seasons, a clean and defensible space around your home goes a long way to protecting it from fire damage by grassfires.

City of Grand Saline – Friday Update

It has been a busy week here in the City of Grand Saline, with a lot of great work taking place across multiple departments.

We recently held a Town Hall meeting where we discussed current and future grant opportunities, public safety concerns, and ongoing challenges our departments are facing. These conversations are important as we continue planning for the future of our community.

Street improvements remain a priority, and we are hopeful to complete several street replacement's across town in the coming months.

The city pool is currently being prepared for the upcoming season. City Council will vote next month on operating hours and scheduling, after which we will begin booking parties. The pool will also be under new management, and we look forward to providing a great experience for our citizens this summer.

Mayor Kathy Smith has been actively meeting with various organizations and city personnel throughout the week.

A big shoutout to our Public Works Department for their continued efforts in addressing water leaks and sewer issues across the city. Additionally, contractors are still actively working in the Lakeside Drive area, replacing sewer lines to improve infrastructure.

Our library hosted a wonderful Easter egg hunt for the community, with a great turnout of kids. Emma Curry, our Salt Queen, made an appearance along with the Easter Bunny, helping make the event extra special.

The Fire Department held its regular Monday night training, focusing on communications as Van Zandt County agencies transition to the new digital radio system.

The Police Department remains busy keeping our community safe.

Be sure to visit the Salt Palace, where Salt Mine Tour raffle tickets are now available for purchase—don’t miss your chance to experience one of Grand Saline’s most unique attractions!

Our EDC, Main Street, and Communications teams continue working hard to keep the public informed and support economic growth. Main Street has several exciting initiatives underway, including the near completion of the Welcome to Main Street mural.

Thank you to all of our departments and community members for helping keep Grand Saline moving forward!
