🚨🚨ATTENTION GRANDVIEW PLAZA RESIDENTS. The tree limb pile is officially closed today. We will be starting burn operations as of today 7/31/2026. No one will be permitted to drop off any limbs. If you are caught, you will be charged for illegal dumping. Please stay away from the area the pile will burn for quite a few days. Thank you.

J-Hill Road bridge is fully open to traffic
The Kansas Department of Transportation has completed bridge replacement of the J-Hill Road bridge over I-70 in Geary County. The bridge is now fully open to traffic.
The J-Hill Road bridge was closed to traffic in March 2025 due to structural findings from a recent bridge inspection and bridge replacement began in August 2025.
King Construction, of Hesston, was the prime contractor for this project.

It's that time of year again. Here are the dates and times to shoot off fireworks. Also please soak used fireworks with water. Do not throw recently used fireworks in the trash. Every year we run multiple trash fires. So please be safe and aware this year.

This is just some of the damage from this storm. Majority of all streets are cleared of big trees. Some power is out in town. Please if you see power lines down do not go near them immediately call 911. We will be out first thing in the morning to do more of a damage assessment around the city. Stay safe tonight.

Tonight could get very interesting. Please pay attention to warnings and local officials. If we get over 80mph winds we will be sounding the storm sirens and opening the shelter since those are very destructive winds. There will also be heavy rain some 2 inches an hour. So local flooding will occur. Please be vigilant tonight and keep an eye on the weather.

Confidence is increasing in a line of storms moving quickly east across the area this evening. These storms will be capable of producing widespread damaging winds, especially across north-central KS. Be sure to keep an eye on the weather this evening, particularly if you've got outdoor plans.
