Today, May 5th, 2024 is National Fallen Firefighters Day. A day in which we remember the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice protecting the citizens they served.

Today, May 4th, we honor the brave men and women from around the world that have served past and present. International Firefighters’ Day (IFFD) is a time where the world’s community can recognize and honor the sacrifices that firefighters make to ensure that their communities and environment are as safe as possible.

This evening, members conducted training on search/rescue operations and hose line control. Using our smoke machine allows us to conduct this training under zero visibility conditions, which closely simulates the conditions crews face upon initial entry. In addition, we conducted pump training for some of our new drivers. Strong work getting back to the basics!

We are taking time this week to say thank you to the unseen heroes of public safety. 911 Telecommunicators are the FIRST, first responders. They are always ready to answer the call.

Earlier this afternoon, LCVFD along with Crawford Township Volunteer Fire Department Currituck, NC. and N.C. Forest Service responded to a brush fire in the woods between the 140 block of Barnard Road and Jerrold Court. Units arrived and quickly brought the rapidly growing fire under control. We were under Red Flag conditions today (low relative humidity and high winds). Please be mindful of weather conditions before making even a small flame!
