The stories you once supported are still being told. A farmer sharing what the future of agriculture looks like. A small town preserving a tradition. A Veteran sharing his story. A teacher finding new ways to inspire students. A community coming together when it matters most. A person whose story might never have been told anywhere else.

These stories matter. And telling them takes people who believe they’re worth telling. As we look toward Minnesota’s Give to the Max Day, we’re asking you to help us keep telling the stories of the Pioneer PBS region. https://www.givemn.org/organization/PioneerPBS

In these Halloween segments from Sid the Science Kid, kids learn that bats are helpful creatures that catch mosquitoes, spiders are expert web builders, and cats have fantastic leaping abilities. They also learn that skeletons help hold up our bodies, and slime can be a solid or a liquid depending on its composition.

There’s something powerful about seeing yourself reflected in a story. A familiar landscape. A town that looks like yours. A person whose experiences feel familiar. A tradition you grew up with. A voice that sounds like home. That’s one of the things local storytelling can do.

It reminds us that our lives and our communities are worth seeing. Pioneer PBS tells stories from our rural region because our region has stories worth telling. Rural stories matter. Help keep the stories going here: https://www.givemn.org/organization/PioneerPBS

A visit with an eye doctor for an eye exam can feel like a big, unfamiliar step for kids and parents alike. The good news is that a little preparation goes a long way. Here are some strategies to help your child feel calm and ready for the exam.

Before the Visit
* Talk about what to expect.
* Watch Donkey Hodie: “Donkey’s Eye Exam” together.
* Role play at home.
* Practice the eye chart.
* Pack for a longer visit.
* Bring sunglasses.
* Time it well.
* Think of questions in advance.

During the Visit
* Help narrate each step.
* Help explain the tools simply.
* Prepare for eye drops (if used).

After the Visit
* Take time to reflect.

Trick-or-treat! Or we'll take some science too. In this spooky clip from Ready Jet Go!, Dr. Rafferty explains to Jet and his friends why the moon turns red during a total lunar eclipse (and no, it’s not because of ghosts!). The color red passes through the atmosphere easier than other colors, so even when the Earth blocks the sunlight, the moon will still be illuminated in red.
