And just like that, most of our regular Children’s Programming takes a bit of a break for three months and our focus turns to….Summer Reading!

This summer Unearth A Story at Grant Area District Library! 🦕 🌋 🦖 🦴 📜 🪱 🍄‍🟫

Join us for a summer filled with books, reading, free interactive programs and events, and more! Our fun and exciting theme for this summer will have us exploring many ways that we can unearth interesting information and history from the world around us…just by digging in, both literally and figuratively!

Expect to hear about dinosaurs, rocks and gems, dinosaurs, worms, mushrooms, dinosaurs, history, dinosaurs, fossils, and more! Oh…and dinosaurs. 😂

There are a few changes this year, so if you’re a Summer Reading veteran you might notice some differences. Change can be hard but I’m hoping to swing the focus of Summer Reading back to books, reading, and fun experiences together.

Summer Reading is a free, seven week program that runs from Monday June 8 - Saturday July 25 with the goal of keeping kids reading and engaged through the summer months.
While we encourage and invite everyone to sign up and participate, remember that you don’t have to be signed up for Summer Reading to enjoy our free program events and our Movie Mondays.

Sign-up starts On MONDAY JUNE 1 and you can sign up in person in the library, or online through the free ReadSquared app that we have used previously for Summer Reading. Logging and tracking of minutes can also be done with a paper tracking sheet or on the app. Whether you prefer to register in person or online, make sure to do so by Tuesday June 30!

This year all children age birth - 18 will have the same tracking sheet and reading goals, 25 minutes per day, five days of the week. No more struggling to keep track of different reading times for different ages!

Each week that a child reaches and logs their reading goal (25 minutes a day, 5 days a week which is 125 minutes a week) they will earn a Raffle Ticket for a CHANCE TO WIN one of our Grand Prizes!

Participating readers will get to choose a free book, just for signing up. Readers will earn a small ‘Halfway There!’ prize bag as well as a small ‘You Did It!’ prize bag when they complete the full program. All readers who complete the full program are eligible for the Grand Prize Drawings which will happen at the beginning of August.

If you register online through the app, don’t forget to come in to GADL to pick your free book! Participants who sign up online are also welcome to come into the library to get a Summer Reading Registration Packet which has lots of information about the program itself as well as a calendar and schedule of programs and events for June and July.

Whew. Information overload!

Keep an eye on this space throughout the summer months for more info about the program as well as all the different events and activities we have planned!

I invite you all to sign up for the Summer Reading Program and hope to see you this summer at GADL!

We’ve been wrapping up some of our Children’s Programming like our book clubs and Games Club and getting ready for our last Early Release Day…but don’t forget, we continue to have Family Storytime most weeks throughout the summer!

The last Early Release Day of the school year is upon us! Which means the end of the school year, and summer, are just around the corner.

If you’re a tween or teen (age 9 - 17) you’re invited to the last Early Release Movie Day, where we’ll be watching a summer classic; The Sandlot!
And with summer so close, ice cream just makes sense so we’ll be having one last make-your-own-sundae bar. 🌞 🍦

Hope to see you soon at the library, friends!
