A silver lining of being out on a search all night is watching the sun rise in a special place we wouldn’t otherwise be. Thankfully the lost person was found ok as well!

Very informative class and a great opportunity to hone our coordination with other SAR resources in the region!

Very informative class and a great opportunity to hone our coordination with other SAR resources in the region!

Stowe Mountain Rescue would like to extend our thanks to the excellent instructors from CalTopo who spent four days teaching a room full of New England SAR volunteers. CalTopo has revolutionized the way searches are run and has changed the way our team operates on every single mission. It gives us situational awareness and a way of capturing and relaying details of the mission. We’re so grateful for this technology and relished the opportunity to explore its potential in more depth. So interesting to hear case studies of searches out West from the folks at the helm – the terrain in California may be vaster and wilder but the process is the same and we at least match them in enthusiasm!

As well as being a game-changer for SAR team missions, CalTopo is an incredibly flexible mapping tool for the individual user – check their website for details.
