Today, middle and high school English students put their verbal and nonverbal communication skills to the test with a hands-on team challenge!
Each group was given 15 cups, a rubber band, and one string per person. Their task? Work together to build a cup structure — without touching the cups with their hands! Students had to control the rubber band using only their individual strings.
We completed the challenge in two rounds:
🗣️ Round 1: Students could communicate verbally as they worked together.
🤫 Round 2: No talking allowed! Students had to rely completely on nonverbal communication, observation, and teamwork.
The activity led to some great conversations about how we communicate, what happens when communication breaks down, and just how important it is to listen, watch, adapt, and work together.
A fun way to kick off the school year while practicing skills that matter both inside and outside the English classroom! 🧡🖤
