On May 23, 2026, at about 0915 hours, Sean Washburn, a 59-year old male, confronted Grants Pass Police Officers at the corner of NE 6th and NE A Street. The officers were setting up barricades to secure the Boatnik Parade route.

Washburn demonstrated a strong hostility toward the parade and made other concerning statements. He then drove away in a reckless manner.

The officers securing the parade route coordinated with patrol officers to locate Washburn. His statements had caused alarm and the single most important task in the moment was to locate Washburn.

Within minutes, Washburn's car was located several blocks away. He was then located walking toward the parade in the area of SE 4th and SE J Street. He was immediately taken into custody and Grants Pass Police Detectives responded to help with the investigation.

Washburn was lodged at the jail on charges of Reckless Driving and Disorderly Conduct.

The investigation determined there was no further risk to the public. As with any major event, the Grants Pass Police Department took measures to protect the public. We have numerous meetings with the Active Club, Grants Pass Fire/Rescue, and all other stakeholders leading up to the parade. The goal is to have a safe and fun community event.

We would like to thank the Medford Police Department for their assistance in the Washburn arrest and securing the parade route.

The Grants Pass Police Department is proud to announce that two of our newest officers graduated today from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training as members of Basic Police Class #461.

Chief Warren Hensman was in Salem to help commemorate this outstanding achievement. Congratulations to Officer Homar Ferrer and Officer Michael Hobert on this important milestone in their law enforcement careers!

Many of you may remember when both officers were sworn in at the police department on January 20th earlier this year. While that ceremony marked the beginning of their service, today’s graduation represents another significant accomplishment.

After completing 16 weeks of academy training in Salem, Officers Ferrer and Hobert will now continue their professional training here in Grants Pass alongside our outstanding field training officers. Over the coming months, they will prepare for solo patrol status later this year.

We are excited to welcome them back to Grants Pass in continued service to our community. Please join us in congratulating Officer Ferrer and Officer Hobert!

It’s that time of the year again!

The Grants Pass Police Department SWAT Team completed three days of intensive training during our annual team review yesterday, May 13th, alongside instructors from the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA).

This training is critical to ensure our team remains prepared to respond to high-risk incidents safely, effectively, and professionally. Continuous training and evaluation help sharpen our tactical skills, strengthen teamwork, and reinforce decision-making under pressure; all of which are essential to protecting and serving our community when critical incidents occur.

We are committed to providing the highest level of service possible, and opportunities like this are invaluable in helping us maintain that readiness. Our community deserves a team that trains to the highest standards and is prepared to respond when needed most.

A sincere thank you to the NTOA instructors for making the trip to Southern Oregon and sharing their expertise with our team. We also want to thank Fire District 3 in Jackson County for allowing us access to their training facility for the final scenario that culminated the training week. Partnerships like these make high-quality training opportunities possible.

We appreciate the continued support from our community and partner agencies.

The Grants Pass Police Department is proud to announce Police Officer Arianna Donovan's graduation from DPPST's Police Academy #460. Chief Warren Hensman was present for her ceremony, capping off sixteen weeks of foundational police instruction. She served as the class Color Guard Leader.

Arianna has been a valued member of our department, serving as a Police Cadet, Community Service Officer, and member of the Crisis Negotiation Team. During this time, she proved to be hardworking, dedicated, and respected by her peers.

Her collateral duties included being the department's procurement specialist and Fleet liaison. She excelled in both of these challenging responsibilities.

Arianna will return home to Grants Pass to start her Field Training Evaluation Program. This will involve months of hands-on training to further her policing education. As with all GPPD police officers, she will be expected to demonstrate excellence in communication, de-escalation, customer service, problem-solving, and community engagement.

We are proud of Arianna and all she has already completed in her law enforcement career. Please help us congratulate her!
