Cibola County is developing a broadband plan for all of our county residents. We would like to invite you to take our surveys regarding broadband within the County.

The first survey is for residential broadband. You can take this survey even if you don’t have broadband at your home. Residential: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WWCM3RH

The second survey is for anyone with internet access. Both residential and business customers are encouraged to take a speed test of your internet and fill in this survey. Speed Test: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WCMVMB2

The third survey is for business internet. Businesses who work from home may take this survey as well as the residential survey. Business: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WSQSLD2

All Cibola County residents no matter where they live in the county are encouraged to take the surveys. This information will be used to create a plan on how to improve broadband capabilities within Cibola County.

The Cibola County Court Complex (APPO-DA) will be closed all day, Monday, February 7th, 2022 to facilitate the install of the transformer for the HVAC System. The complex will reopen, Tuesday, February 8th, 2022 during normal business hours.

Once the transformer is installed it will still take time before the entire HVAC system is up and running. This will be an ongoing process of testing and evaluating the HVAC System in each suite (starting at APPO to DA). Once this evaluation period is completed, TLC will be able to provide a more accurate estimate of when the HVAC system will be up and running throughout the complex.

Again, Cibola County Court Complex (APPO-District Attorney’s Office) will be closed all day, Monday, February 7th, 2022 to facilitate the install of the transformer for the HVAC System.

National parks are wonderful places for you and your four-legged friends to explore and connect with the great outdoors. Before grabbing a leash and heading out on an El Malpais National Monument adventure, we encourage you and your dogs to be effective B.A.R.K. rangers to remember how to "BARK:"

🐾Bag your p**p
🐾Always wear a leash
🐾Respect wildlife
🐾Know where you can go
El Malpais is one of the many national park sites you can explore with your dog! Learn more about how to have a safe and fun visit at El Malpais on our website at www.nps.gov/elma/planyourvisit/pets.htm.

Cairn (noun)--pronounced "KEHRnn" or "KEHR-ehnn"; a stack or heap of stones indicating a landmark for historic and/or navigational purposes
Many parks outside the southwest can build trails by clearing vegetation and laying down gravel and by digging into the ground to post signs, but when some parts of El Malpais has very little (if any) of that to start with...we use cairns!
Cairns mark established hiking trails, direct foot traffic away from potentially hazardous terrain, and protect cultural and historical resources at El Malpais. Ancestors of today's Acoma Pueblo and Zuni Pueblo built cairns on today's Zuni-Acoma Trail across the lava flows to connect the two Pueblos across lava flows and generations. Some of these traditional cairns can be thousands of years old.
Trained crews of today took special care to create cairns marking established trails while also respecting the El Malpais habitat and history at Lava Falls and other sections of the Zuni-Acoma Trail.
If you have any questions about where an El Malpais cairn should or should not be, ask a ranger. Please do not add your own rock stacks, as you can confuse future hikers or unknowingly damage the ecology there. And please do not knock any cairns down, as you may be damaging timeless treasures.
Where have you navigated a trail by cairn?

Cibola County Artists this may be of interest to you all.

Calling Sculptural Artists!

Are you or do you know a sculptural artist?

Art can reach and resonate with people in a universally strong way. That’s why the BLM is partnering with Public Lands Interpretive Association (PLIA) to develop an art installation at the El Malpais NCA. We want to use art to inspire stewardship for the resources, culture, and history of the area.

As part of this art initiative, we will be asking for artists to submit their ideas for a sculptural representation of land stewardship, history and culture, and land conservation of the El Malpais NCA.

Submissions are due March 18, 2022. For more information and access to the application, please visit: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0259/0074/4789/files/Call_for_Artists_Advertisement_Final.pdf?v=1641932109
