Public Service Announcement:

A friendly reminder to motorists traveling near our local fire station: please reduce your speed and remain alert when passing the station and the nearby Riverwalk/Fire and Ice Parks.

Emergency vehicles can enter or exit the station with little warning when responding to an emergency. Speeding through the area simply isn’t worth the risk to firefighters, motorists, pedestrians, or other emergency responders.

Please slow down, pay attention, and be prepared to stop or yield when emergency vehicles are entering or leaving the station.

Our firefighters have somewhere important to be. Let’s help them get there safely.

Drive safe. Slow down. And most importantly, after 10 PM...Shhh! Firefighters are sleeping 🤫🤫

⚠️ COMMUNITY NOTICE – BEAR CUB SIGHTING 🐻

The City of Grants is aware of a small bear cub located in the area of Zuni Canyon Road.

The Grants Police Department made contact with the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish regarding the cub. Officers were advised that residents should leave the bear alone and give it plenty of space, allowing it the opportunity to come down on its own and return to the surrounding wilderness.

For the safety of the bear and our community, residents are asked to:

• Do not approach, feed, or attempt to capture the cub.
• Keep children and pets away from the area.
• Observe only from a safe distance.
• Allow the cub a clear path to leave the area.

The Grants Police Department will conduct frequent patrols in the area and continue to monitor the situation.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in helping keep our community and our wildlife safe. 🐻🌲

Please give the cub space and let wildlife officials and nature take their course.

Back to School - Let's Make it a Safe Year!

With the start of a new school year, the City of Grants Police Department wants to wish all of our students, parents, teachers, and school staff a safe and successful school year!

As everyone settles back into their school-year routines, we ask our community to take a few extra moments to help keep our children safe. A little extra caution can make a big difference!

DRIVERS — SLOW DOWN!
• Watch for children in school zones and residential areas.
• Obey posted school-zone speed limits.
• Stop for pedestrians in crosswalks.
• Put the phone down and eliminate distractions while driving.
• Be patient during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.
• Never pass a stopped school bus when its red lights are flashing.

PEDESTRIANS & STUDENTS
• Use designated crosswalks whenever possible.
• Look both ways before crossing the street.
• Stay alert and avoid distractions when walking or biking.
• Follow crossing guards and school staff directions.

SCHOOL BUS SAFETY
• Stay a safe distance from the roadway while waiting for the bus.
• Wait until the bus has come to a complete stop before approaching.
• Remain seated and follow the driver's instructions while on the bus.
• Remember: when a school bus is stopped with its red lights flashing, STOP!

A SAFE SCHOOL STARTS WITH ALL OF US
Parents and guardians, take a few minutes to talk with your children about staying safe at school, knowing who they can go to for help, and reporting anything that seems unusual or concerning to a trusted adult.

And remember, if you see something that doesn't look right, say something.

The Grants Police Department will be working alongside our schools, students, parents, and community partners throughout the school year. Our goal is simple: help keep our children safe while they learn and grow.

🚨 NOTICE TO THE GCCS COMMUNITY 🚨

Today, the Grants Cibola County Schools Security Team, in partnership with local emergency response agencies, will be conducting an Emergency Preparedness Drill at Mt. Taylor Elementary School.

This is only a drill. There is NO actual emergency.

These training exercises are an important part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for our students, staff, and visitors. By working alongside our local emergency partners, we are able to practice our emergency response procedures, strengthen coordination, and ensure we are prepared should a real emergency ever occur.

We appreciate the continued support and cooperation of our GCCS families and community as we work together to keep our schools safe.
