Units were dispatched to a structure fire on San Jose Drive. When units arrived on scene there was heavy fire conditions in the rear of the house. There was active fire in the yard as well. An attack team was able to force entry and made an interior attack and made a great stop on the fire. One firefighter was taken to the ER for assessment for a concussion, luckily the firefighter had his protective equipment on properly, that individual was released and is doing good. Great work to all agencies.

On March 22nd Grants fire along with Milan Volunteer Fire, San Rafael Volunteer Fire, and Mt. Taylor Ranger District from U.S. Forest Service responded to a brush fire near Walmart. That fire was caused by an individual that tossed a cigarette into a bush.

In the early morning of March 23rd Grants fire along with Milan Volunteer Fire Department responded to another brush fire located behind Pizza 9.

With the current drought conditions we are in we would like to remind you to be very cautious, if you see something, say something! No injuries reported and great work from all agencies. An estimated 10 acres burned between the two fires.

Grants Fire with the assistance of Milan Vol. Fire responded to a structure fire on the 600 block of Sergeant St. Upon arrival crews reported heavy smoke coming from the residents. Personnel were able to make entry Into the residence and found the fire in the attic and spreading to the garage area. Crews were able to extinguish the fire and keep it from spreading to adjacent homes. No injuries were reported by personnel or civilians.

Grants Fire responded and assisted Milan Volunteer Fire Department with two structure fires in the Village of Milan last night. The first fire was reported at 12:55 AM, upon arrival there was heavy smoke conditions, crews were able to make interior attack and perform search and fire control, the fire was contained to one part of the trailer. While mop up operations were going on for the first fire dispatch advised they had received two calls about a secondary structure fire. Grants Fire and Milan Volunteer Department arrived to a garage fire that was well involved. Crews were able to prevent minimal damage to the house and contained most of the fire to the garage. There were no injuries reported to Firefighters or civilians.

BLM will be conducting a prescribed burn approximately 30 miles southwest of Grants, NM in Cibola County within the El Malpais NCA. The goal of this project is promotion of ponderosa pine and native grasses in the area as well as to create defensible spacing in neighboring communities by removing 240 acres of piñon/juniper piles using #prescribedfire. Some smoke may be visible during the project. #FireYear2021

Grants Fire responded to Cibola county district 11 for a report of a vehicle accident involving two semi’s. First arriving unit confirmed extrication was needed. The cargo that was being hauled shifted into the cab of the semi giving the crew a challenge with visual and breathing hazards. After approximately 20 minutes the Patient was successfully extricated and transferred to superior EMS, and patient was later flown to UNM by PHI air medical. Also on scene was Dr. White with the UNM Consortium. It was determined the cargo was a dry powered plaster. No injuries were reported to firefighters on scene. Also on scene was Cibola county sheriff’s, Milan volunteer fire department, State police, and Cibola county fire command.

Crews were busy this past weekend:

On Saturday Dec. 26, 2020 crews were dispatched to a residential structure fire. The first engine on scene reported a working fire with heavy smoke showing. Crews were able to make an interior attack and contain the fire to the attic space and prevented further spread. Milan Volunteer Fire Deptarment along with Cibola Fire Command assisted on scene.

On Sunday Dec. 27, 2020 in the early evening crews were dispatched to a multi vehicle accident. Upon arrival the first unit advised extrication was needed. Crews were able to extricate two patients successfully. A total of four patients were transported by ambulance from the scene with varying injuries. There was one fatality reported. No injuries were reported by fire personnel at either incident.

Units were dispatched to a single car rollover with entrapment. Upon the first units arrival they confirmed extrication was needed. Crews were able to successfully remove the patient and transfer care to Superior Ambulance. No injuries were reported to firefighters.

Thank you Grants Fire and Rescue for your assistance on today’s four wheeler fire. Also thank you Superior Ambulance, Cibola County Fire Command, and Milan PD for your response to assist. No injuries were reported. Unknown how the fire started. Being next to the fuel pumps, this incident could’ve been more dangerous than it already was. Awesome job to all!

On 12/15/2020 Grants Fire along with Milan Fire, Cibola County Command, and Superior Ambulance were dispatched to a car fire at approximately 15:29 on HWY. 53. Grants Fire arrived on scene and quickly extinguished the fire no injuries were reported to fire personnel or civilians.

TRAFFIC/WEATHER ALERT.....

Travel on I-40 is strongly discouraged at this time. Several accidents have been reported starting at the 93 MM East Bound. I-40 West Bound is closed at MM 125. Inclement weather is making for dangerous driving conditions. Several agencies are actively responding to these incidents at this time.

On Tuesday, November 17, 2020 Grants Fire with assistance from Milan Volunteer Fire Department, Cibola Fire Command, Superior Ambulance and PHI responded to a single vehicle rollover. Upon arrival we were informed a total of five individuals were involved. Two separate PHI helicopters were requested to land on Interstate 40 in addition to the four ambulances on scene. All patients were transported with varying injuries. In addition CCSO and GPD assisted on scene and in town with traffic control. Strong work by all agencies involved.

With grateful hearts we thank all Veterans for your service and sacrifice. Happy Veterans Day.
